If anyone needs tips on cutting back ornamental grasses, then Early spring to late-spring depending on the species.
Warm season grasses turn shades of brown as the weather turns colder. Once your warm season grasses turn brown you can trim them back just a few inches tall or cut them back to the ground, ready for the new growth to begin. By the way, not all ornamental grasses look good through the winter, trim back those that don't look good in the fall.
Cool season grasses, should be cut back at the end of the fall or early spring. Leave about 1/3 of the plant in place. Trimming cool season grasses too harshly can irreparably harm the plant.
