NEW YEAR MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY GENERAL ROAD SAFETY COMMITTEE ,REGIONAL CONVENER CSO – SOUTHERN REGION, CHAIRMAN COALITION OF CIVIL SOCIETY ON R3VENUE GENERATION AND SERVICE DELIVERY SOUTH – MUSTAPHA KPAKA JR.
As we usher in the New Year- 2026, let me first thank and appreciate God for our lives and for the lives of those currently hospitalized in various health facilities as a result of road traffic accidents. My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the families of those who could not see the end of last year 2025 as a result of such tragedies. However, say bravo to our committed partners such as Concern Mothers, Bike Riders and the Drive Safe Alliance- that continuously kept the fire burning, who saw the need to complement the efforts of the Sierra Leone Police and the SLRSA - Road Safety Corps by helping the most vulnerable road users to use the roads safely.
Our road network a major challenge. The Mattru Jong Road is still under construction.
The Freetown Highway continues to suffer from numerous potholes with little or no attention for repairs. The Yele–Makeni–Kono Road, which provides short access from the Southern capital city of Bo to the Northern and Eastern districts of Bombali and Kono, also a serious challenge. On a positive note, I commend the Government for the completion of the Moyamba Road and the Pujehun Road that is almost completed, except for the Gobaru Bridge bravo to the Government and partners.
