The West Africa Heritage Consultants Ltd is implementing a hands-on training for heritage skills for the restoration of wooden architecture in Freetown, Sierra Leone with the Commonwealth Heritage Forum under its Heritage Skills Training Programme. This training takes place on a board house which was a grand home but has fallen into disrepair. The Freetown City Council and the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs are collaborating on this initiative as it aligns with their agenda.

The West Africa Heritage Consultants Ltd is proud to be implementing the Sierra Leone National Archives Restoration Project in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Public Archives Office, the IDEP ECA, and other like minded individuals like Dr. Sylvie Kande of SUNY, USA, Dr. Abioseh Porter, ING Melbourne Garber of Gideon GRC Consulting NY, USA, and Ing Desmond Jones. This project is funded by the Prince Claus Fund and the Whiting Foundation of The Netherlands. It seeks to train staff of the Archives and Final Year students of the Department of Library Studies and Knowledge Management of the Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone in Digitization and Archive Description. It also will rehabilitate two rooms at University House, FBC which house two collections of the Archives. Selected collections will be repackaged and digitized.
Already work is well advanced and training started July 25th and will end July 30th.

Let us take pride in our "Africanness" and protect and preserve that which we value and pass them to the next generation. The Managing Director, Isatu Smith yesterday took the new US Ambassador David Reimer on a tour of Bunce Island. The MD was the Consultant Project Manager for the World Monuments Fund Bunce Island Preservation Project funded by the US Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation. The Ambassador was taken on a tour of the former slave fort and briefed on the preservation project. He was able to see first hand all the wonderful transformation that has taken place at the fort. The fort has been stabilised, local craftspeople trained, school heritage Clubs taken on a tour of the island and neighbouring communities consulted extensively all thanks to funding provided by the US government.
