The West Africa Heritage Consultants Ltd has been managing the Old Fourah Bay College Restoration Project. Funded by the Commonwealth Heritage Forum and the World Monuments Fund it has brought together a team of experts leading the restoration work. Lead Consultant is Aziza Chaouni and Structural engineer is Donald Harvey. Stephen Battle of the World Monuments Fund is the Co-Project Manager. Ing Donald Jones is Site Engineer and Tom Taylor-Morgan of TRINE Investments is the contractor.

We are working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs with the enthusiastic support of the Minister Nabeela Tunis, and the Monuments and Relics Commission.

Work includes installation of a new roof, restoration of the ground floor for adaptive reuse and later reuse of the 1st and 2nd floors for indoor amphitheatre, offices, an exhibition detailing the building's history and morphology and classrooms. Work is progressing well. More updates to follow.

The West Africa Heritage Consultants Ltd has commenced work on the historic Eastern Police Clock Tower in Freetown. A laterite stone structure it was tiled using bathroom wall tiles which completely covered the stone structure. This project seeks to remove the tiles and CTF and cement, clean and repair the stone structure, replace the four faced clock so it's chiming and working again, install luminous lighting using solar, repair the roof structure, replace the rotted railings and generally beautify the site. The Freetown City Council are custodians of the site and the project forms part of the Mayor's Transform Freetown: Transforming lives heritage tourism development agenda. UK based stone mason David Lamb is leading the training of 13 masons and engineers in stone masonry conservation as part of this project. Funded by the Commonwealth Heritage Forum. The hope is that the Eastern Police Clock Tower will reclaim its historic role as a meeting point for Freetonians. Due to heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic coupled with massive street trading it is a challenging site to operate. But the hoarding is helping quite a bit. Will continue to share updates.
