On this World Mental Health Day, let us reaffirm our collective commitment to building a society where compassion prevails over judgment, understanding replaces stigma, and every individual has access to the support and dignity they deserve.
This year’s theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” reminds us that behind every struggle is a human story that deserves to be heard, respected, and understood. Listening to those with lived experiences must go beyond words; it must inspire meaningful action, strengthen our support systems, and shape policies that protect the mental well-being of our people.
As First Lady of Sierra Leone and President of OAFLAD, I believe that mental health is fundamental to human dignity, social development, and national progress. We must continue to break the silence surrounding mental health, empower our young people, support our families, and ensure that no one is left to suffer in silence or face their challenges alone.
Let us work together to build a Sierra Leone, an Africa, and a world where mental well-being is a shared priority, seeking help is met with understanding rather than shame, and every voice is heard with compassion and respect.
Mental health is not a privilege; it is an essential part of our collective well-being. Together, let us turn awareness into action and compassion into lasting change. đź’š
