11-year-old Davis Bethany has secured the highest score in Sierra Leone following the official release of the 2026 National Primary School Examination (NPSE) results by the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE).

Davis Bethany of Tower Hill Kindergarten and Primary School achieved a record-breaking aggregate T-score of 351, surpassing the highest score of 346 recorded in 2025.

The overall pass rate for the 2026 examinations stands at 78.2%, a slight improvement from last year's 78%.

PARLIAMENT PASSES THE CONSTITUTION OF SIERRA LEONE AMENDMENT ACT 2025

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Monday 10th August 2026 passed into law with amendments the Bill entitled: "The Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Act, 2025, despite a walkout staged by the opposition in protest of the voting method.

The Bill is seeking to amend the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No. 6 of 1991) and to provide for other related matters.

After a protracted debate, the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Segepoh Solomon Thomas later ruled on the voting threshold and directed the Clerk of Parliament to put the question together and send to the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone for interpretation within three months from today, before he adjourned Parliament to 29th October 2026.

During today’s parliamentary sitting, 97 Members of Parliament voted in favour of the Constitution of Sierra Leone Amendment Act 2025, and
two Members of Parliament were reported absent with excuse by the Clerk of Parliament.

It could be recalled that during the proceedings, some Opposition Members of the All People’s Congress (APC) staged a walkout in protest of the Speaker’s earlier position on the voting method, subject to interpretation by the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone.

The Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic comprised of 149 Members of Parliament including 81 SLPP, 54 APC, and 14 Paramount Chief Members of Parliament (PCMP).
