Somali Norwegian Chamber of Commerce (SNCC) warmly welcomes the launch of the KOBCIYE – Livestock Financing & Investment Program, an important initiative aimed at strengthening Somalia’s livestock value chain and expanding access to financial services and investment opportunities across the sector.

The livestock sector remains the backbone of Somalia’s economy. Supporting livestock producers, traders, SMEs, transporters, and related businesses through innovative financing solutions will contribute significantly to economic growth, job creation, private sector development, and community resilience.

SNCC highly appreciates the collaboration between IBS Bank, Mercy Corps, and Sida in introducing new financial models and Sharia-compliant financing solutions tailored to the realities and needs of Somalia’s livestock economy.

We believe Somalia needs stronger partnerships that connect:
• Finance and investment
• Private sector growth
• Financial innovation
• Livestock markets and trade
• SME development and entrepreneurship

SNCC is grateful for the invitation to participate in this important event and commends IBS Bank and its partners for their commitment to advancing inclusive economic development and sustainable growth in Somalia.

We look forward to seeing more innovative financing models, strategic partnerships, and investment initiatives that empower Somali businesses and unlock the full economic potential of the livestock sector.

GWP is an official delivery partner for countries aiming to access funding through the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Programme.

In this series, we’re exploring progress in some of the countries we work with.

💧 GWP Southern Africa in collaboration with Somalia’s Nationally Determined Authority (NDA), convened a training on GCF Frameworks in Mogadishu from 9 to 12 February. The meeting also validated Somalia’s Readiness Needs Assessment (RNA) and Private Sector Engagement Strategy (PSES).

💧 Over the course of 4 days, representatives from government institutions, financial entities, the private sector, civil society, and development partners strengthened their understanding of and GCF programming, while formally validating two key strategic instruments that will guide Somalia’s climate finance readiness and pipeline development.

This engagement was conducted under the AU–AIP Multi-Country GCF Readiness Programme, implemented in Somalia by Global Water Partnership Southern Africa in collaboration with the Somali NDA.

Somalia’s private sector is active but largely informal, with most businesses operating at small scale and limited structure. While market activity is growing, this has not translated into strong job creation or productivity gains. Access to finance remains constrained, infrastructure is weak, and businesses face fragmented markets and intense competition.

Somali Norwegian Chamber of Commerce (SNCC) addresses these challenges by building bridges between Somalia and Nordic markets. SNCC supports business formalization, investment readiness, and trade facilitation, while strengthening public-private dialogue and creating platforms for partnerships.

Through targeted support, SNCC helps transform small, informal businesses into structured, investable enterprises. The focus is on unlocking capital, improving market access, and driving sustainable economic growth.

Somali Norwegian Chamber of Commerce is not only supporting businesses. It is building systems, connecting markets, and positioning Somalia for long-term private sector development.
