Today, the Eco Plastic team had the privilege of presenting our initiative on transforming plastic waste into a source of decent job opportunities for the community at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

We met with H.E. Abdillahi Jama Osman (Geeljire), Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and Mr. Abdi Ali Ahmed, Director General. During the meeting, we shared the vision and mission of our initiative, emphasizing how converting plastic waste into useful, friendly pavers can address environmental challenges while creating sustainable employment opportunities for vulnerable communities in Hargeisa.
H.E. the Minister appreciated the innovation and social impact of our project and expressed readiness to support us, including the potential for financial exemptions on machineries. Mr. Abdi Ali Ahmed, the Director General, reassured us of the Ministry’s commitment to collaboration, including the possibility of installing and using our products within the Ministry’s compound.

🌍✨ Training Waste Pickers for Safety, Health, and Dignity ✨🌍

On Thursday, 11th, Eco Plastic with Care Consulting Organization conducted a transformative training session at the Hargeisa Cultural Center on:
“Protection, Health, Safety, and Dignity of Plastic Waste Pickers.”
13 of the 17 registered waste pickers from the Hargeisa Southern Dumpsite participated, gaining practical skills in:
✅ Safe waste handling and sorting
✅ Occupational health hazard awareness and prevention
✅ Proper use of protective equipment
✅ Recognition of their essential role in maintaining a clean city

The session was attended by Mr. Nizier, Head of Sanitation and Urban Development (Ministry of Environment), and Ms. Najah from the Climate Change Department, highlighting the importance of public health and environmental protection.

At the end of the session, Eco Plastic equipped each participant with a full protective kit — including uniforms, high-filtration masks, safety glasses, and gloves — symbolizing both safety and professional recognition.

This training, part of the Social Innovation Challenge Project, was funded by Innovation Norway partnering with World Vision, Response Innovation Lab, Engineers Without Borders, and SomRep.

By empowering waste pickers with knowledge, tools, and protection, we are advancing health, safety, dignity, and environmental sustainability.

We are thrilled to share that Eco-Plastic had the privilege of participating in the Open Innovation Day hosted at HarHub Facilities, welcoming a distinguished delegation from World Vision International led by Cameron Bailey (Chief Strategy Realization Officer), Lara Villar (Partnership Leader, Strategy and Innovation), and Bagezile Dube (Senior Director of Innovation), alongside the Response Innovation Lab (RIL) team.

As one of 13 innovative startups showcased during this event, we were proud to present our sustainable solutions for plastic waste recycling and discuss how Eco-Plastic is driving change through eco-friendly practices and job creation for marginalized communities.

The event also provided an excellent opportunity to connect with key ecosystem players.

Together, we are shaping a resilient and thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem!
