Today, we took an important step toward a more responsible and sustainable future for the small-scale gold mining sector in Suriname.

Together with representatives from various sectors, we participated in the validation of the National Responsible Small-Scale Gold Mining Strategy. This validation session provided an opportunity to bring together insights, experiences, and recommendations and to ensure that the strategy reflects the realities on the ground.

Responsible small-scale gold mining goes beyond economic development alone. It also touches on themes such as:
• protection of people and the environment
• responsible use of natural resources
• inclusive economic opportunities
• safety and health
• collaboration between government, communities, and the private sector

It was valuable to see how much knowledge, commitment, and shared ambition were present to build a sector that can create more positive impact both today and for future generations.

Thank you to all participants for their active contribution to this process. Together, we are working on solutions that are not only practical but also sustainable and future-oriented.

Vandaag hebben wij een belangrijke stap gezet richting een meer verantwoorde en duurzame toekomst voor de kleinschalige goudmijnsector in Suriname.

Met vertegenwoordigers uit verschillende sectoren hebben wij deelgenomen aan de validatie van de National Responsible Small-Scale Gold Mining Strategy. Deze sessie bood ruimte om inzichten, ervaringen en aanbevelingen samen te brengen en ervoor te zorgen dat de strategie aansluit bij de realiteit in het veld.

Verantwoorde kleinschalige goudwinning gaat verder dan economische ontwikkeling alleen. Het raakt ook thema’s zoals:
• bescherming van mens en milieu
• verantwoord gebruik van natuurlijke hulpbronnen
• inclusieve economische kansen
• veiligheid en gezondheid
• samenwerking tussen overheid, gemeenschappen en private sector

Het was waardevol om te zien hoeveel kennis, betrokkenheid en gezamenlijke ambitie aanwezig was om te bouwen aan een sector die zowel vandaag als voor toekomstige generaties meer positieve impact kan creëren.

Dank aan alle deelnemers voor hun actieve bijdrage aan dit proces. Samen werken we aan oplossingen die niet alleen uitvoerbaar zijn, maar ook duurzaam en toekomstgericht.

Entrepreneurship is not only about building businesses — it’s also about building relationships, creating impact, and growing together. 🌱

One lesson that continues to stand out in project implementation and collaboration: growth starts with reflection.

As entrepreneurs, consultants, and team leads, we often expect the same level of ownership, speed, and proactiveness from others that we bring ourselves. But effective leadership also means understanding that every team member contributes differently.

A powerful habit for growth is to intentionally evaluate and monitor your collaborations. Ask colleagues, partners, and team members:
✨ How did you experience my leadership?
✨ What worked well?
✨ What could I do differently to support the team better?

Sometimes disappointment teaches us that results are not only shaped by others, but also by how we lead, communicate, support, and adapt.

Strong leaders don’t only identify challenges — they actively look for solutions, strengthen partnerships, and create environments where people can succeed.

Growth is not about perfection. It’s about learning, adjusting, and moving forward together.

De vele regens van de afgelopen dagen laten opnieuw zien hoe sterk weersomstandigheden onze productiviteit én gemeenschappen beïnvloeden. Wegen raken onder water, veldbezoeken worden uitgesteld en geplande activiteiten lopen vertraging op.

Bij de uitvoering van projecten is het daarom essentieel om rekening te houden met de seizoenen en lokale omstandigheden. Goede planning voorkomt onnodige vertragingen, extra kosten en frustraties in het veld.

Succesvolle projecten draaien niet alleen om goede ideeën, maar ook om realistische planning afgestemd op de praktijk. 🌧️📋

Some people think Monitoring & Evaluation is just about reports, numbers and indicators.
For me, it’s much more personal than that.

It’s about knowing if the long hours, the sacrifices, the trainings, the projects and the community efforts are truly making a difference.

Because impact should not be guessed.
It should be seen, measured, learned from and improved.

Good Monitoring & Evaluation helps us stop wasting time on what doesn’t work and focus more on what truly changes lives. 🌱
