Call for Guyanese and Surinamese enterprises in timber supply chains to Express Interest to join the upcoming Forestry Business Mission to Europe (November 1 to 7, 2026)

The Global Gateway Investment Agenda (GGIA) for Guyana and Suriname invites established, export-ready enterprises from both countries to submit Expressions of Interest (EoI) to join upcoming European Forestry Business Mission designed to accelerate export diversification, enhance local value addition, and secure private investment in sustainable forestry value chain. Participation represents a strategic opportunity to access the European market through a structured, three-tier commercial approach encompassing deal-ready opportunities, strategic partnerships, and market expansion networking.

Five high-potential companies from Guyana and five from Suriname will be selected to join the mission scheduled for November 1 to 7, 2026, that will be anchored around the International Hardwood Conference in Antwerp, Belgium.

The European Union will sponsor the mission participants, covering essential costs including round-trip economy flights, intra-EU transportation, travel insurance, Schengen visa fees, and accommodation with per diems for up to seven nights. Prior to departure, a specialized service provider will deliver targeted business coaching for the Guyanese companies, and prepare the matchmaking through refined company profiles, development of pitch decks, and aligning product materials with EU market requirements.

As part of an eventful SEOGS week, AmCham Suriname, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy Paramaribo, brought together our members, AmCham Guyana, AmCham Trinidad & Tobago, the visiting U.S. trade delegation, and key stakeholders for an AmCham Business Brunch.

In his remarks, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Paul Watzlavick reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to partnering with a Suriname where entrepreneurship and innovation drive economic diversification, create opportunity, and deliver lasting prosperity for Suriname and the wider region. He emphasized that the United States remains committed to bringing American expertise, investment, and fair, transparent economic partnerships that create value for both countries.

This week we also welcomed Michael McNulty of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and Hugo Yon, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary van het Bureau of Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs.

The setting provided valuable space for more in depth discussions between our members, potential partners, and U.S. institutions exploring opportunities in Suriname.

At AmCham Suriname, we believe meaningful partnerships are built through dialogue, trusted relationships, and practical connections. Bringing together business leaders, investors, government agencies, and regional partners remains central to our mission of strengthening trade and investment between Suriname and the United States.

AmCham Suriname welcomes Michael McNulty from the Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and Kelsey Mullen from U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), who will be visiting to explore opportunities for collaboration in Suriname.

USTDA and DFC are U.S. government agencies that advance American economic and strategic interests abroad — USTDA by funding upfront technical work that accelerates critical infrastructure development in emerging markets, and DFC by mobilizing private capital to finance projects that strengthen allies, secure supply chains, and counter U.S. adversaries.

Growing business relations between Suriname and USA

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs Hugo Yon, is in town . Yesterday he met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Cooperation Melvin Bouva to advance the strong and growing partnership between the United States and Suriname.

The two discussed the full breadth of the U.S.-Suriname relationship — from expanding commercial opportunities for American companies across Suriname's energy, infrastructure, technology, and healthcare sectors, to deepening security cooperation that protects both our countries. The United States is committed to ensuring that American firms have free and fair access to Suriname's growing market — and that Suriname has access to the world's best partners as it prepares for its historic 2028 oil boom.

The United States is Suriname's largest trading partner — and meetings like this one ensure that relationship keeps growing.
