Akonbuoi Trading & Investment Company Ltd later became Mustardseed & Prosperity Multipurpose Company Ltd
Managing Director & CEO – Mustardseed Prosperity & Multipurpose Co. Ltd
After completion of university studies in the USA, I came back to South Sudan and right away registered my company trading under AKONBUOI Trading & Investment Co. Ltd in 2009. The company gained a lot of credibility especially with supply of assorted foodstuffs to the ministry of Defense and to the general public and also supply of building and construction materials to both government and the private sector.
In 2017, for competitive reasons, AKONBUOI Trading & Investment Co. Ltd was changed to MUSTARDSEED & PROSPERITY MULTIPURPOSE CO. LTD. The company has since then been in the business of General Supplies, Real Estate Investment and Construction.
As the CEO and Managing Director of the company, I am charged with a lot of responsibilities, some of which include: -
▪ Ensuring that all the employees understand the vision and mission of the company
▪ Overseeing the strategic direction of the company
▪ Implementing changes and proposed plans
▪ Engaging in media obligations and public relations
▪ Monitoring the company performance by relying on financial & non-financial metrics
▪ Setting the precedence for the working culture and environment
▪ Creating networks and closing business deals for the company
▪ Ensuring that the company contributes to its fair share of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Achievements & Future Goals
Under my leadership, the company has been able to make some milestones towards the economic growth of South Sudan and improve livelihoods. Some of these include: -
▪ Creating jobs for young men and women of South Sudan and beyond. Currently the company employs over 40 people both on permanent and contract basis
▪ Earning the government of South Sudan income in form of taxes and levies
▪ Providing trading spaces for small and medium enterprises for both local and foreign investors
▪ Successful completion and handover of projects to clients. Some of the projects include;
o Commercial and Residential apartment in Hai Malakal, which hosts a total of 35 units, both commercial and residential. Due the rapid growth in population in the country and also an influx of foreign nationalities, there is a reciprocal rise in demand for decent housing, especially in the capital Juba.
o Business and Entertainment Centre in Gudele called The Lion Hub, which hosts a sports bar & restaurant, photo studio, car wash, conference/meeting hall and over 60 container stalls which have been rented out to traders in the SME sector, who contribute immensely to economic development.
o Fresh Fruits and Vegetables market and semi-permanent shops in Gudele Boaba, where young women, widows and elderly women (The vulnerable in society) are able to sell their merchandize and make a living for themselves, hence contributing to Economic Growth of the country.
o Church and Court building in Hai Referendum,
o Church Offices building in Jebel/Check-Point
▪ Upcoming MATHIANG NEW MALL. This is a project that will sit on an area of two acres in Gudele Boaba. All the architectural drawings and designs have been finalized and we are hoping to break ground in January 2024 and complete the project in two years’ time. The facility will have amenities like kids’ playground, shops & supermarkets, Banks, Residential apartments, Water park, Entertainment center, just to mention a few.
▪ Infrastructure Development. The company hopes to partner with the government of South Sudan and other private investors to spur the development of infrastructure in the country. Some of the infrastructure we are looking at include: -
o Improving the City Plan from the current down-town to suburbs of Juba
o Construction of state-of-the-art bus stations for effective and safe public transportation
o Improvement of inner city roads and facilities for better commuting.
▪ Improving security in the capital by bringing together the organized/disciplined forces and the private security companies to work together in related areas. This will increase confidence in investors and hence more investment leading to increased revenue to government through taxes.
▪ Social Co-operatives; working with the business communities to invest with us in social responsibility and assist them in accessing credit for business expansion.
