Paying final respects to Lieutenant Colonel Nimrol Devon Beckles.

His life was one of service, discipline, mentorship and quiet national contribution. Through the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force and the Turks and Caicos Islands Cadet Corps, he helped shape the lives of many young people across our Islands.

Lieutenant Colonel Beckles was not born and raised in the Turks and Caicos Islands, but he came here, served here, loved these Islands, and gave himself to our people. In return, the Turks and Caicos Islands loved him back and embraced him as one of our own. That says something about him, and it also says something about the heart of these Islands when we are at our best.

Lieutenant Colonel Beckles served with dignity. He led with purpose. He gave more than he took.

May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy continue in every young person whose life he helped to shape.

Happy Mother’s Day from United Way Turks and Caicos Islands.

Today we honour the mothers, grandmothers, guardians, teachers, mentors and women of care whose love, sacrifice and daily example help shape the lives of our children and strengthen the heart of our communities.

At United Way TCI, we know that strong families are the foundation of strong communities. So much of a child’s confidence, discipline, learning and hope begins with the steady encouragement of those who care for them at home, at school and in the wider community.

We also hold in our thoughts those for whom today may be tender, including those remembering mothers no longer with us, and those who have carried the responsibility of care in quiet and unseen ways.

On behalf of United Way Turks and Caicos Islands, thank you to every mother and mother figure helping to build a stronger, kinder and more hopeful Turks and Caicos Islands.

Happy Mother’s Day.

Let knowledge become your strength.

Knowledge Is Power. Literacy Is Strength.

Every nation rises when its people understand the foundation that governs their rights, their freedoms, and their place in their homeland.

Today’s message is simple but transformative:

Constitutional literacy gives you power.

Power to stand.
Power to question.
Power to participate.
Power to hold authority accountable, respectfully, confidently, and lawfully.

Too often, people feel powerless not because they lack rights, but because they lack knowledge of those rights.
And in the absence of knowledge, confusion grows. Fear grows. Silence grows.

This series is about ending that silence.

As we learn together, you will see that the Constitution is not a distant document reserved for lawyers or leaders. It is a practical, everyday shield designed to protect you, your family, your opportunities, and your future.

The moment you understand your rights, you walk differently. You speak differently. You stand differently.

Share this with someone who is ready to reclaim their voice.

The Supreme Law of Our Land

With our last post we began this journey into constitutional literacy.
Today we take the next vital step.

Nothing outranks the Constitution

Knowledge is power and today, you gain more of it.

The Supreme Law of Our Land

With our last post we began this journey into constitutional literacy.
Today we take the next vital step.

Nothing outranks the Constitution, not policies, not decisions, not offices, not individuals.
It is the supreme law of the Turks and Caicos Islands, and every authority in this country is bound by it.

When you know this, you no longer fear titles.
You no longer fear power.
You no longer fear the system.

Because the system is required to follow the Constitution and the Constitution belongs to the people.

In this series, we are learning not only what the Constitution says, but what it means for your daily life:
• how decisions affecting you must be made,
• how your rights protect you,
• and how to stand confidently when facing any arm of the state.

The more you understand this document, the stronger you become as a citizen in your own homeland.

Share today’s lesson with someone who needs this reminder.

Today we begin a journey together, a journey into the document that shapes every right you hold and every freedom you enjoy.

This series will teach you, in simple and accessible language, what your rights are, how they work, when they protect you, and how to stand firmly in your own homeland.

If you believe every Turks and Caicos Islander should know their rights, save this post and share it so others begin this journey with us.

Today, we awaken together.

A Nation Awakens

Today we begin a journey together — a journey into the document that shapes every right you hold and every freedom you enjoy.

For years, many of our people have walked through life unsure of what the Constitution actually protects. I’ve seen the frustration, the uncertainty, the feeling that the system is bigger than us.

But here is the truth:
When you understand your rights, you become unshakeable.
When you understand the Constitution, you become powerful.

This series will teach you, in simple and accessible language, what your rights are, how they work, when they protect you, and how to stand firmly in your own homeland.

The navy and gold in today’s graphic reflect the Constitution’s authority, unmovable, dignified, and supreme.

If you believe every Turks and Caicos Islander should know their rights, save this post and share it so others begin this journey with us.

Human Rights Commission Congratulates Mr. Mark A. Fulford on Landmark Legal Publication

The Human Rights Commission proudly extends its heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Mark A. Fulford on the successful launch and publication of his ground breaking legal text, Law and Constitution – Navigating the Legal Landscape of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

A native son of the Turks and Caicos Islands and a distinguished Attorney at Law, Mr. Fulford unveiled his seminal work on Saturday, 8th November 2025, at the Messel Ballroom, The Palms, Providenciales. This publication marks a historic milestone—it is the first comprehensive legal text of its kind focused on the Turks and Caicos Islands, and notably, the first authored and published by a Turks and Caicos Islander.

The book offers an in-depth exploration of the legal system and Constitution of the Turks and Caicos Islands. While it serves as a vital resource for legal practitioners; its true power lies in its accessibility to everyday citizens. Mr. Fulford emphasizes the importance of understanding the rights enshrined in the Constitution and the mechanisms available within the legal system to safeguard those rights. He describes the book as “a tool for every citizen to better understand, assert, and defend their rights.”

In his remarks, Mr. Fulford underscored the enduring value of legal literacy: “Knowing your rights is the first step in protecting them—not just for ourselves, but for generations to come.”

The Human Rights Commission commends Mr. Fulford for his visionary contribution to raising the public awareness of rights and civic empowerment. His work stands as a beacon for justice, equality, and national pride.
