☀️ THAILAND SUMMER ALERT: CAT HEATSTROKE ☀️
The heat in Thailand isn't just uncomfortable—it can be deadly for our community’s stray cats. Since they can’t tell us they’re overheating, we need to be their eyes and ears!
🚩 5 Signs of Heatstroke in Cats:
• Rapid Panting: Cats rarely breathe with their mouths open. If they are gasping, it’s an emergency.
• Dark Red or Gray Gums: Check their mouth; bright red or very dull gums mean trouble.
• Extreme Lethargy: If a cat is too weak to stand or seems disoriented.
• Vomiting or Drooling: Excessive thick saliva is a major red flag.
• Hot to the Touch: If their body feels significantly hotter than usual.
🚑 Emergency First Aid (Before the Vet):
If you find a stray cat suffering from the heat, DO NOT dunk them in ice water! This can cause their body to go into shock. Follow these steps instead:
1️⃣ Move to Shade: Get them into a cool, ventilated area or an air-conditioned room immediately.
2️⃣ Cool Down Gradually: Use a cloth soaked in room-temperature water to wipe their paws, ears, and underarms.
3️⃣ Offer Water: Provide fresh water, but never force them to drink as they might inhale it into their lungs.
4️⃣ Use a Fan: Place them near a fan to help lower their body temperature through evaporation.
🐾 How You Can Help Every Day:
• Leave Water Bowls Out: Place clean water in shaded areas around your neighborhood.
• Ice Cubes: Dropping a few ice cubes in their water bowl can keep it cool for longer.
• Create Shade: A simple cardboard box in a breezy spot can provide a much-needed escape from the sun.
Let’s keep our feline neighbors safe this summer! 🐱❤️

Street Dog Rescue Guide: 5 Red Flags That Mean "Get to a Vet Now"

In Thailand, millions of stray dogs face heat, disease, and accidents. For a rescuer, knowing when a dog is in a "life-or-death" crisis is the most important skill. Here are the 5 critical signs to watch for:

1. Neurological Signs (Distemper or Rabies)
If a dog acts "drunk" or has muscle twitches, it often means a virus has reached its brain.
• What to look for: Rhythmic jaw snapping (like chewing gum), constant muscle twitching even while sleeping, or walking in circles.
• DANGER: These signs can also mean Rabies. If the dog is aggressive, foaming at the mouth, or cannot swallow water, do not touch it. Stay 10–15 meters away and call authorities.

2. Bloody Diarrhea (Parvovirus)
Parvovirus is a killer, especially for puppies. It destroys the stomach lining and leads to rapid death.
• What to look for: Severe vomiting and foul-smelling, bloody diarrhea. The dog will be very weak and unable to lift its head.
• The Crisis: In the Thai heat, these dogs die from dehydration within 2-3 days. If you see blood in the stool, it is a top-tier emergency.

3. Trouble Breathing (Respiratory Distress)
When a dog can’t get enough oxygen, it will change its body posture to try to stay alive.
• What to look for: Stretching the neck out straight, gasping with an open mouth, or the belly "heaving" heavily with every breath.
• The Test: If the dog is resting but breathing faster than 60 breaths per minute, or if its tongue looks blue/purple, it needs oxygen immediately.

4. Pale or Discolored Gums (Anemia & Dehydration)
The color of a dog’s gums tells you what’s happening to its blood. Healthy gums should be "Bubble-gum Pink."
• White/Pale Gums: Severe blood loss or anemia (often from too many ticks).
• Yellow Gums: Liver failure or "Tick Fever."
• Blue Gums: Choking or heart failure (lack of oxygen).
• The Dehydration Test: Touch the gums. If they feel dry or sticky instead of wet and slippery, the dog is dangerously dehydrated.

5. Internal Injuries & Immobility
Not all car accidents leave a mark on the outside. Internal bleeding is a silent killer.
• What to look for: A belly that looks swollen or bloated, weakness in the back legs, or ears and paws that feel very cold (a sign of shock).
• Small Wounds, Big Problems: A tiny bite wound from a fight can hide a massive infection (abscess) under the skin. Always check for soft, painful lumps.

⚠️ Safety First: How to Approach
A sick dog is a scared dog. Even the sweetest dog may bite if it is in pain.

1. Watch Body Language: If the tail is tucked or the dog is growling, stay back.

2. The Blanket Shield: Use a thick blanket or towel to wrap the dog. This protects you from bites/parasites and makes the dog feel more secure.

3. Use Basic Commands: Many Thai street dogs respond to simple words like "Nang" (Sit), "Ma Nee" (Come here), or "Ning" (Stay).
