☀️ THAILAND SUMMER ALERT: CAT HEATSTROKE ☀️
The heat in Thailand isn't just uncomfortable—it can be deadly for our community’s stray cats. Since they can’t tell us they’re overheating, we need to be their eyes and ears!
🚩 5 Signs of Heatstroke in Cats:
• Rapid Panting: Cats rarely breathe with their mouths open. If they are gasping, it’s an emergency.
• Dark Red or Gray Gums: Check their mouth; bright red or very dull gums mean trouble.
• Extreme Lethargy: If a cat is too weak to stand or seems disoriented.
• Vomiting or Drooling: Excessive thick saliva is a major red flag.
• Hot to the Touch: If their body feels significantly hotter than usual.
🚑 Emergency First Aid (Before the Vet):
If you find a stray cat suffering from the heat, DO NOT dunk them in ice water! This can cause their body to go into shock. Follow these steps instead:
1️⃣ Move to Shade: Get them into a cool, ventilated area or an air-conditioned room immediately.
2️⃣ Cool Down Gradually: Use a cloth soaked in room-temperature water to wipe their paws, ears, and underarms.
3️⃣ Offer Water: Provide fresh water, but never force them to drink as they might inhale it into their lungs.
4️⃣ Use a Fan: Place them near a fan to help lower their body temperature through evaporation.
🐾 How You Can Help Every Day:
• Leave Water Bowls Out: Place clean water in shaded areas around your neighborhood.
• Ice Cubes: Dropping a few ice cubes in their water bowl can keep it cool for longer.
• Create Shade: A simple cardboard box in a breezy spot can provide a much-needed escape from the sun.
Let’s keep our feline neighbors safe this summer! 🐱❤️
