Dr. Belguith reveals how transcriptomics serves as the critical bridge connecting genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, epigenomics, and phenomics in multi-omics research, and maps the molecular stress response networks that underpin drought, heat, disease, and oxidative stress resilience in wheat.

This work connects directly to the Chili & Mahmoudi landrace story, shedding light on the transcriptomic basis of adaptation in Tunisian durum wheat.

Today, we spotlight Dr. Maroua Gdoura Ben Amor (University of Sfax, Tunisia):
"Chili & Mahmoudi: A Multi-Omic Story of Drought, Salinity, and Disease Adaptation."

This presentation takes you through a complete bioinformatics journey, from tackling a 10+ GB polyploid wheat genome with just 15 GB of RAM to discovering 27,777 high-confidence SNPs and leveraging AlphaFold 3 to reveal how a single premature stop codon truncates a key TIR-NBS-LRR immune receptor in the Mahmoudi landrace.

The team also unveiled TuniTritica, a fully interactive, browser-based web app making population-genomic and transcriptomic divergence accessible to everyone, with zero server-side dependencies.

๐Ÿงฌ Dr. Mazen Sherif kicked off with a masterclass in in silico oncology, decoding curcuminโ€™s multi-target war against colorectal cancer. From ADMET profiling and network pharmacology (Cytoscape hub analysis) to molecular docking & redocking validation against AKT1, he bridged predictive modeling with hard biological data, culminating in in-vitro validation across proliferation, apoptosis, and metastasis assays in Caco-2 cells. Pure computational-meets-wet-lab synergy.
๐ŸŒฟ Dr. Omnia Abdelnasser took us on a dual journey through natural therapeutics:
First, Indian Costus, unlocking sesquiterpene lactones (Costunolide, Dehydrocostus lactone, Cynaropicrin) for chronic wound healing, from ethnobotany to 3D biofilm assays.
Then, a deep dive into AI-guided discovery for vitiligo, from L-Tyrosine and 4-Hydroxysattabacin molecular architectures to an end-to-end pipeline: dry lab AI simulation โ†’ in vivo preclinical validation, achieving 70โ€“80% effectiveness. A true โ€œFrom Lab to Lifeโ€ story.
๐Ÿงช Dr. Mariam Helmy closed the scientific program with AI-powered structural engineering of Vitamin B12 biosynthesis. She walked us through a complete precision-biotech pipeline, AlphaFold structure prediction of CobA, active site identification, rational mutation design, AutoDock Vina docking & redocking validation, and the winning mutant E133K with superior SAM binding affinity. Structural bioinformatics meets fermentation optimization.
