Uzun yıllar boyunca antioksidanlar, yalnızca reaktif oksijen türlerini (ROS) nötralize eden moleküller olarak değerlendirildi.

Güncel redoks biyolojisi ise farklı bir bakış açısı sunuyor. Fizyolojik düzeyde oluşan ROS, yalnızca oksidatif hasarın değil; aynı zamanda hücresel adaptasyon, mitokondriyal fonksiyon, immün yanıt ve gen ekspresyonunun da önemli düzenleyicileri arasında yer alıyor.

Bu nedenle günümüzde hedef, ROS’u tamamen ortadan kaldırmak değil; redoks homeostazını koruyarak hücresel sinyalleşmenin devamlılığını desteklemek olarak tanımlanıyor.

For many years, antioxidants were viewed solely as molecules that neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS).

However, current redox biology offers a different perspective. ROS generated at the physiological level are not only key regulators of oxidative damage but also play a crucial role in cellular adaptation, mitochondrial function, immune response, and gene expression.

Therefore, the goal today is not to completely eliminate ROS, but rather to support the continuity of cellular signaling by maintaining redox homeostasis.

In particular, the activation of the NRF2-mediated endogenous antioxidant response and hormetic adaptation mechanisms have become one of the focal points of antioxidant research.

Cyclospora (specifically Cyclospora cayetanensis) is a microscopic single-celled parasite (protozoon) that causes a severe and prolonged intestinal infection (diarrhea) called cyclosporiasis in humans.

It is primarily transmitted through contaminated water and raw fruits and vegetables.

Paying attention to food hygiene, choosing reliable water sources, and using accurate diagnostic methods in suspected cases play a crucial role in preventing and managing Cyclospora-related infections. Symptoms can persist for weeks.

Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are critical for controlling the disease.
