Arkistan is a joint initiative by Orhan Esen and Katharina Sucker. It is a complementary service to Urbanitiez. Both Arkistan and Urbanitiez are set up to support knowledge-exchange and collaboration between scholars, researchers and sector-professionals in the realm of the built environment of Istanbul. Lectures, participatory events, workshops as well as excursions and field trips are their most
typical formats. Arkistan offers consultancy and guidance to professionals in the metropolitan area. It concentrates on the existing building stock, and current developments in architecture, urban development and planning. With its hands on the pulse of Istanbuls rich culture and art sector Arkistan caters for pleasant experiences according to the lifestyle and interests of its guests. Joyful moments are an indistinguishable part of expanding networks and gaining new knowledge. Urbanitiez is designed to support civil society organizations and students. With an emphasis on contextual research it concentrates on what drives urban production, moving from the building to the built environment. Urbanitiez also provides frame and starting point for civil participation, or interventions through art and design. Itineraries and program concepts developed here focus more strongly on urbanism and the sociological aspects of the city.
