The Trinidad and Tobago–India Business Federation (TTIBF), extends warmest congratulations to the Government and people of India on the occasion of its 80th Independence Day.

Since 1947, India has grown into one of the world's largest and fastest-growing major economies, with the IMF projecting growth of approximately 6.4% in 2026. That growth is reshaping sectors from digital technology and payments to pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy and space exploration.

For Trinidad and Tobago, this presents a clear commercial opportunity. Bilateral trade between our two countries totalled approximately US$1.2 billion over the past five years (2019-20 to 2023-24), spanning energy products, iron and steel, pharmaceuticals, vehicles, machinery and other manufactured goods. That trade has real room to grow and diversify, and doing so is where our attention should now turn.

Recent developments give us a strong platform to build on. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to T&T in July 2025, the agreements concluded during that visit, the further agreements reached during External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar's visit in May 2026, and the growing interaction between our business communities all reflect renewed momentum in the relationship.

The next chapter should be increasingly economic and commercially driven with deeper trade and investment integration, stronger trade arrangements, and greater private-sector partnership. We want to see T&T manufacturers build a lasting presence in the Indian market, and to position T&T as an attractive destination for Indian investment and as a gateway for Indian companies into CARICOM and the wider Americas.

The TTIBF remains committed to turning the historic friendship between our countries into stronger flows of trade, investment, technology, knowledge and enterprise. Our cultural ties are already deep; our task now is to make our economic ties equally strong.

On this occasion, we salute India's journey and wish its people continued prosperity, progress and success.

Happy Independence Day, India! Jai Hind!
