Food is basic need for human existence. Food is energy for human progress and development, but food is facing a huge insecurity contributed by post harvest losses and wastage as well as accessibility to food and socioeconomic factors.
A coping strategy of food insecurity in Arusha city is the availability of many alternative foods that gives consumers a wide choice while the availability of one food type limits consumers choice and demand.
Basically this is what is known as "Food Erosion" whereby some food types disappear in the food consumption and as a result contributing to food insecurity and lack of economic empowerment in Arusha city and Africa as a whole.

Tanzanian Startup social enterprise, Leo Leo Eco-Transport has been shorlisted for the Disrupt Africa Live Pitch Competition taking place on the 16th May 2018 in Nairobi, Kenya.

As part of the 10 tech startups selected from Africa, Leo Leo Eco-Transport will have three minutes to pitch on stage at the AHUB East event, with the best startup winning a trip to pitch at AfricaCom in Cape Town in November alongside other prizes.
The competition will be taking place at the East Africa Com event at the Radisson Blu in Nairobi’s Upper Hill. According to Disrupt Africa, the event “will see up to 10 tech startups selected to pitch their innovative solutions live on stage in front of an esteemed jury and audience of potential investors and corporate partners.
The winning startup will earn an all-expense-paid trip to Cape Town to pitch their startup at AfricaCom, Africa’s premier tech conference, in November 2018.”

This is good news and a good start for Leo Leo Eco-Transport. Believe us Tanzania, we'll make you proud.

After testing the prototype with the end users, the team had the opportunity and the chance to go to the end users to discuss on the new technology. The value of iteration showed us whether if the prototype was working or it wouldn't work for the end users.
The value of iteration is to test and evaluate repeatedly at different stages of the prototype design in order to eliminate usability flaws before the product is designed and launched. In other words, iterative design is a process of improving and polishing the design over time.

After few weeks of learning, unlearning and employing design practices for a product design, I realized that we do employ these practices in designing anything and it is not a new process. In fact, it has been practiced for ages. .
Design Thinking is not a concrete and inflexible approach to design a solution to specific challenge either by constructing something physically or by source coding using computer systems. Various Stages might be conducted concurrently and repeated several times to narrow down the best possible solution.
After the iteration process the product is tested by the different users who give feedback that can be used to improve the product in the future.

A solar powered tricycle to be attached or mounted with a solar paneled refrigerator that will be used to handle, store and distribute perishable foodstuffs especially fruits, vegetables, fish, poultry and honey will be developed. The solar powered tricycle will also be fitted with two rechargeable batteries and an inverter to store solar energy that will help to propel the machine and run a refrigerator in case the weather will not be favorable to generate power from the sun.
** An attempt to improve food supply chain value and subsequently reduction of post-harvest losses of food in some towns in Tanzania has brought an innovative idea of developing or creating a solar powered tricycle that will be used to handle, store and distribute food from farms to final consumers.
