Tanzania is at the heart of migration dynamics in East Africa.

During her visit to Tanzania, IOM Director General Amy Pope met with H.E. President Samia Suluhu Hassan and other senior government leaders to strengthen cooperation on migration governance, safe mobility, labour migration, migrant protection and development.

The visit reaffirmed the importance of partnership in addressing the region’s evolving migration dynamics and ensuring migration can contribute to development.

Strengthening document security is key to enhancing border governance and combating identity fraud.

The IOM African Capacity Building Centre - ACBC, in partnership with the Repatriation and Departure Service (R&DS) of the Kingdom of the and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, successfully delivered an Advanced Document Security Training in Moshi, Tanzania, for 15 immigration officials from The Gambia. Through hands-on practical sessions and expert instruction, participants strengthened their skills in document examination, fraud detection, and identifying emerging forgery trends.

Implemented under the EMMAS II project, the training highlights the value of international cooperation in building stronger border management systems and promoting safe, orderly, and regular migration across Africa.
