Talent management challenges.
Stephen Naita a scholar of Human resources management argues that in order for the human resources to be categorized as talent, they must have four characteristics. Firstly, they must be valuable in the sense that an individual's knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies are required for performing a job in the organisation, secondly, it must be rare in terms of having rare intellectual ability that an organisation cannot find easily and which is capable of making the human resources flexible and adaptable to a number of situations in future. Thirdly, their knowledge, skills attitudes and competencies must be inimitable in the sense that they cannot be imitated. Fourthly, they must be the type that cannot be substituted.
According to demand and supply forces, knowledge workers categorized as talent find it easy to leave organisations for greener pastures because the talent pool is generally limited. Availability of talent in a corporation is therefore, a source of competitive advantage. This illustrates the significance of the talent force and the difficult faced by those competing to recruit them into the organisations and retain them. Many employers are currently experiencing difficulties in finding the talent they require, this has created challenges of talent management which Stephen Naita defines as a process of selecting or creating a workforce with unique knowledge, skills,attitudes and competencies and putting them in positions where they are at their best at the right time. This includes improving their strengths, monitoring their progress, motivating them to work harder and inculcating them in the culture of commitment.
