Originally forest dwellers, the estimated 6,200 Batwa (2014 Uganda Population and Housing Census) in Uganda make up 0.2 per cent of the population. They have been almost entirely dispossessed of their land by the combined pressures of government departments responsible for conservation, and cultivators, notably Bakiga, claiming land. They live in south-western Uganda in the districts of Bundibugyo, Kabale, Kisoro and Rukungiri. The Bwindi Impenetrable National Forest of Uganda was the home of the Batwa before they were evicted, causing them to become dependent on the Mgahinga and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Conservation Trust (MBIFCT).

Uganda is a small and landlocked country but still one of the best countries to go to for a safari in Africa. Uganda is blessed with incredible biodiversity, good weather, friendly people and amazing wildlife. Uganda has the largest population of mountain gorillas and is also the best country to track chimpanzees in Africa. The main activities while on a safari in Uganda include gorilla trekking, visiting the equator crossing, general wildlife viewing (including all the big 5), chimpanzee trekking, golden monkey tracking, bird watching, visiting the source of the river Nile, whitewater rafting, launch/boat cruises, nature walks, cultural/Community tour, city tours, mountain hiking and observing amazing waterfalls just to mention a few.

African Safari: Big 5

You can't get much more exotic than an African safari. Uganda is one of the best settings for the adventurous spirit seeking first-hand wildlife experience.

During a big five safari, you can track rhinos, take a boat ride in the River Nile and hike to the top of Murchison Falls.
