Motorola Solutions Sets Up AI Software ‘Hub’ in Boston

The public safety tech supplier says the project, focused on emergency response, involves much more than algorithms. Motorola Solutions recently bought a company that uses AI to sort non-emergency 911 calls.
Motorola Solutions wants to bring more AI power to Beantown.

The public safety technology giant said it has opened an “AI and resilience software hub” in Boston. Motorola will conduct research and development there for what the company, in a statement, called “applied AI and mission-critical, cloud-based solutions, powering the core platform that enables seamless emergency coordination and collaboration between private enterprises and first responders.”

In the statement, Motorola highlighted how schools and universities benefit from such AI public safety platforms.

“Our Boston hub represents a critical intersection where mission-critical AI meets real-world necessity,” said Mahesh Saptharishi, executive vice president and chief technology officer of Motorola Solutions, in the statement. “We aren’t just building algorithms; we’re delivering actionable intelligence for those who manage society's most complex security challenges.”

As with most areas of gov tech, artificial intelligence is tightening its grip on public safety, finding use in areas that range from police reports, gun and gunshot detection, 911 call center operations, jail surveillance and other tasks.

Dallas police launch new crime analysis software, expand drone response program

Department says new technology will help officers connect cases faster and reduce response times ahead of the World Cup.
Dallas police on Wednesday announced the rollout of new technology the department says will help officers analyze crime data faster and reduce response times, including a new data integration platform and an expanded drone response program.
The department introduced a data integration system called Peregrine, which consolidates information from more than 10 existing platforms into a single system. Those platforms include Evidence, the department’s records management system, computer-aided dispatch and jail records.

“They can identify common addresses, common vehicles, common persons,” officials said during a demonstration of the software.

Sgt. Adam Reinhart of the Dallas Police Department said the system will also integrate additional data sources, including city citations, certificate occupancy data and Flock electronic license plate reader information.

Mark43 partners ForceMetrics to boost public safety data

Mark43 has partnered with ForceMetrics to target public safety agencies.

The arrangement combines Mark43's public safety software with ForceMetrics' data analysis and decision-support tools, which will integrate with Mark43's platform.

Public safety agencies often store operational data across separate systems, including computer-aided dispatch, records management and jail management software. The partnership is intended to make that information easier to access across field operations, dispatch, command and investigations.

ForceMetrics said its Velocity product is designed to surface relevant information from fragmented datasets in seconds without specialist training. Average adoption has exceeded 75% of users across roles ranging from sworn officers to civilian staff, according to the company.

Mark43 provides cloud-based software used by police and other public safety organisations, while ForceMetrics focuses on bringing together data from separate systems into a single operational view. Both products run on AWS GovCloud.

Problem-solvers by nature: How Virginia Beach Fire put AI to work

From scheduling to training manuals, VBFD firefighters are using AI to cut through admin workload and keep people focused on higher-value work

By Battalion Chief Noel Garo and Master Firefighter Dan Fernandez

There was no single moment or conference epiphany. What started this was a series of conversations with coworkers and what kept coming up was that a lot of us had already been using AI on our own time — a personal interest, something we were experimenting with outside of work. At some point, someone started applying it to something job-related. Then someone else did. That’s how it spread.

What we began to notice, through conversations across the department, was that the problems our people were solving were increasingly administrative. Scheduling backlogs. Documentation mountains. Research that took weeks. Work that consumed time that could have been spent on training, people, on the bigger picture. Artificial intelligence, it turns out, was built for exactly this kind of friction.
