Dr. Hadiyah-Nicole Green: A Trailblazer in Cancer Research 🩺✨

Dr. Hadiyah-Nicole Green is widely celebrated for her groundbreaking work developing a laser-activated nanoparticle treatment that has shown promising results in killing cancer cells without chemotherapy or radiation.

An HBCU graduate and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., she has become an inspirational figure in science and medicine — especially for young Black students in STEM.

While headlines sometimes exaggerate by saying she “cured cancer,” it’s more accurate to say she created a highly promising experimental treatment that has shown success in preclinical trials. Her innovation continues to move cancer research forward in an exciting new direction.

Emmett Till — August 28, 1955

Let us not forget Emmett Till. On August 28, 1955, the 14-year-old was abducted and brutally murdered in Mississippi. His mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, made the courageous decision to show the world what had been done to her son—helping galvanize a movement for justice that would transform America. His name, his story and his life must never be forgotten.

March on Washington — August 28, 1963

On this day in 1963, history gathered in Washington, D.C. Approximately 250,000 people joined the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historic “I Have a Dream” speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. More than six decades later, the fight for the freedom, equality and economic opportunity they demanded continues.

On Memorial Day, we remember all who died in service to this nation and shine a light on Black soldiers, who fought for our collective freedom even when they were often denied their own. The Black soldiers who served with honor, even as their government refused to grant them full civil rights. The Black soldiers who sacrificed greatly even as they faced racial injustice at home.

Their fight was not only on the battlefield but for dignity, recognition, and the promise of freedom.

This , we honor their legacy, particularly as the United States gets ready to celebrate its 250th anniversary. Black Americans have fought in every major war in this country and deserve the highest level of respect, dignity, and honor.

Memorial Day originated in 1865 when formerly enslaved Black Americans in Charleston, South Carolina, organized the first known commemoration. They honored fallen Union soldiers who died fighting to abolish slavery by exhuming them from a mass grave and giving them a proper, dignified burial.
