This introductory talk explores the rich tradition of Curanderismo in New Mexico and the role traditional healing played in the survival and wellbeing of rural and frontier families shaped by Spanish, Mexican, and Indigenous influences. Before doctors, pharmacies, and clergy were easily accessible, families often relied on community healers, herbal remedies, prayer, ritual, and ancestral knowledge to care for the body, mind, and spirit.

Participants will learn about the historical roots of Curanderismo in New Mexico, common traditional remedies using local plants and household ingredients, and healing practices such as limpias, prayer, sacred herbs, and folk rituals passed down through generations. This talk offers a respectful and accessible introduction to the enduring wisdom, resilience, and cultural traditions of New Mexican healing practices.

I'm in the process of creating a virtual container for those wanting to create their own Sacred Circle.

We'll meet regularly online (probably on a Sunday mid-morning) to discuss logistics, facilitation tools & techniques and themes. I also envision holding space for each other to discuss the real-life scenarios we encounter while sharing the medicine.

Wow…just wow…

When I stepped into this journey the fear of persecution was real. What would people think of me? Would I be laughed out of the room or chased with pitchforks and fire?

But still, I walked the path. I shared my light and knowledge, despite the fear.

And now, I see that the fears were unfounded. The medicine knows no boundaries and as I long as I keep walking the path of humility and reverence, the medicine and my ancestors will protect me and take me further than I ever could have imagined.

I laughingly joke that you can call me a heretic, you can call me a bruja, you can call me a loca…
But you’re still gonna call me 😘
