At GM Voices, we know how to reach the actors we’ve worked with, even years after the original session.

That matters when a producer needs six more lines for a character two years after a game ships. If the original actor can’t be found, recasting the role may mean re-recording every existing line for that character.

We’ve worked with many of our actors for decades, so we generally know who is still recording, what their current rates are, and when they may be available. We also keep records of the mic and signal chain used in each session, the room settings, and direction notes from the original performance. Sometimes those notes are still in pencil on the original script.

Together, those records and relationships make it easier to bring back the original actor and recreate the sound of the original session.

Synthetic voice is basically free now, yet game studios are still casting real actors for narrative work.

That's not just nostalgia, but a true production decision.

Casting and recording game narration is some of the most interesting work we do at GM Voices, and the reason keeps coming back to performance. This month marks 36 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act. It's also Disability Pride Month.
