Outside demand will pull you away from your mission if you let it.

Chasing more customers and more revenue streams, I became a serial entrepreneur solving everyone’s problems.
Then I asked one question: which venture is actually making money?

I dropped the rest and focused on that one thing. That’s when real growth started.

Are you chasing opportunities or protecting your focus?

I lost the deal because I couldn’t explain what I actually did.
My mission was unclear. My pitch confused the seller. My infrastructure couldn’t deliver and the opportunity slipped away.

But that loss taught me more than any win ever could. It forced me to find my niche and refine my mission.
Sometimes losing the opportunity is the lesson that builds the business.

Has a loss ever forced you to get clarity you wouldn’t have found otherwise?

Networking isn’t the problem. Your pitch is.

You network, you shake hands, you follow up two weeks later, and get silence. That’s not bad luck. That’s a clarity problem.
People don’t remember vague. They remember value stated clearly.

If someone asked “what does your business do?” could you answer in one sentence they’d actually remember?

Are you building an empire or just spinning plates?
Splitting focus across multiple businesses isn’t diversifying, it’s diluting. You look busy, but nothing actually grows.

Real growth requires singularity of focus.
Which ONE venture would you keep if you had to shut down the rest?

You started a business. But can you actually explain what it does? 🎙️

NEW MONEY MONDAYS EPISODE!

A lot of entrepreneurs are doing a little bit of everything—consulting, events, products, services—but struggle to explain what their business actually does or who it serves.

I’ve been there myself with The Sanders Hand.

In this episode, we’re talking about finding clarity in your business, knowing when you’re doing too much, and building a 30-second elevator pitch that people actually understand.

You might not have a marketing problem. You might have a clarity problem.

I’ve started several ventures over the years. Some worked, some didn’t, and some taught me expensive lessons.

One thing I’ve learned: just because a business is easy to start doesn’t mean it’s a good business to start.

Here are 10 businesses I’d think twice about in 2026 based on competition, overhead, margins, and what I’ve experienced firsthand.

Agree or disagree with the list?

In 2027, The Sanders Hand will celebrate 10 years of service, growth, and investment in the next generation.

When I founded this organization in 2017, my vision was to create opportunities for young people through entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and education. Over the years, that vision has grown from local programming into statewide initiatives, strategic partnerships, and the development of the Young Billionaires Club.

Each milestone represents years of work, lessons learned, and the commitment of our students, staff, board members, and community partners who have helped move this organization forward.

As we approach our 10th anniversary, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on where we started, how we’ve evolved, and the foundation we’re building for the next decade.
Take a look at the history of The Sanders Hand.

What did I do this week as CEO & Founder Texas Nonprofit | Financial Litearcy | Youth Entrepreneurship

A little bit of everything as I work to tie up loose ends before taking some much-needed time off for my wedding!

This week included administrative work, conducting my first one-year employee performance review, expanding YBC CTSO chapters across Texas, preparing for our 2027 regional competitions and student pitch competitions, and continuing development of the YBC Stock Market.

Also working on Q3/Q4 funding, getting ahead of 2027 grant opportunities, and making sure our programs and partnerships are in a good place before I step away.

One thing about being a founder: there’s always another project, deadline, or opportunity around the corner. But this time, I’m making sure I take some time to enjoy a pretty important personal milestone. 💍

I’ve operated two brick-and-mortar locations, and one of them became one of the most expensive business lessons I’ve had.

The Sanders Hand Thrift Store created impact, served customers, and gave students real-world experience—but financially, I lost nearly $50,000.

That experience changed how I look at overhead, cash flow, expansion, and the idea that having a physical location automatically means your business is growing.

Revenue isn’t profit. And sometimes the tuition in entrepreneurship is the money you lose.

A few lessons from that experience in this carousel.
