Background: in 1926, Lillian Alling a Polish immigrant, left New York City towards Nome, Alaska, in an effort to walk across the Bering Strait & return to Poland.
On August 31, 1929, the Nome Nugget Newspaper mentioned her traveling from St. Michael to Nome, en route to Teller, Wales & Diomede. She may have been helped by Iñupiaq people to cross the Bering Strait by boat to Uelen, Siberia, via Diomede Islands.
