It’s peony season. Cut flowers will last longer inside if you’ve got AC. So fill every vase and glass in the house and enjoy a few days longer. Peonies and 90 degrees don’t mix!

It’s so very June. Spring garden is at its peak. Now that June feels more like July, with sustained heat waves and strong sun, the early summer blooms come fast and furious and are past their peak in a day or two. Sigh. But beautiful still.

Oh yesterday. Best garden day ever…perfect temperature, low humidity, only a slight breeze. Not an unhappy plant in sight and the lettuce and peas are thankful for the chicken wire protection from the hungry bunnies.

While we hunker down in the cold, windy rain, let’s remember yesterday…a perfect Friday for a quick visit to our Summer Street project in Andover. Sunshine and seventies and all the lovelies looking lush. My client’s finishing touches are so fun: the perfect planter on a rustic stool, the adorable bird bath dish, just the right spot for a decorative spiral. She’s so good at curating garden treasures.

Iris varieties putting on their show this week. Brief but showy, I do love an iris for its spear like foliage in the perennial border even after the blooms have gone.

Nothing like a fresh mown lawn, spring’s spectacular blooms and a long weekend. Glad to be back to normal May tenperatures. That heat wave will make the glory of the flowering rhodies, viburnums, lilacs and dogwoods a flash in the pan so quick quick, before they’re gone.
