Most homeowners only think about drainage when water becomes visible inside the basement. In reality, drainage planning begins outside the home. Proper grading, downspout placement, and water runoff management help prevent moisture from collecting near the foundation.
When water consistently pools around a structure, it can slowly create settlement issues, cracks, and long-term deterioration. Many expensive structural repairs begin with poor exterior drainage conditions that were ignored for years.
Understanding how water moves around a property is one of the most overlooked parts of protecting a home long term.

Evaluating drainage concerns or site conditions? RCG Capital Advisory helps homeowners assess property risks before larger structural issues develop. Visit our website to learn more about our approach.

Ever think about what your kitchen sink is actually doing all day?

This is Part 5 (final) of our 5-part home systems series from RCG Capital Advisory, and today we’re breaking down your kitchen sink…aka the everyday hero you don’t think about (until it’s clogged).

It seems simple, but your sink is quietly handling everything you throw at it…literally.

Think of it like this:
Your sink is basically a mini water park system…with a very important job at the end.

Here’s the simple breakdown:
💧 Water (and Everything Else) Goes In
You turn on the tap, rinse dishes, wash food
👉 Everything flows into the sink basin

💧 Down the Drain
Water and small particles move through the drain
👉 The strainer catches the bigger troublemakers

💧 The P-Trap = The U-Turn
Water dips down, loops, and comes back up before exiting
👉 That little bend blocks nasty sewer gases from coming back

💧 Out and Away
Water continues through pipes to the main sewer line
👉 Out of sight, out of mind

💧 Back to the Cycle
Water gets treated and eventually returns to the environment
👉 Nature’s recycling system in action

💡 Did You Know?
• A dripping faucet can waste 3,000+ gallons of water per year
• The P-trap always holds water to block odors
• The average household uses 10,000 gallons of water per year indoors

🛠️ Quick Tips to Keep It Running Smooth:
• Use a strainer, it’s small but powerful
• No grease down the drain, ever
• Food scraps go in the trash, not the pipes
• Flush with hot water occasionally to keep things moving

Your kitchen sink isn’t just a sink…
It’s part of a system that keeps your home clean, functional, and running smoothly every day.

That’s a wrap on the series.
5 systems. 1 goal…help your home make more sense.

If you found this helpful, stick around. We’ll keep breaking things down in a way that actually clicks.

A great trade education without the right tools is like having a driver's license but no car.

A starter tool kit for an electrician is around $500. Add safety gear and a welder's helmet and the entry cost stops being trivial. Tool stipends turn that obstacle into a one-time logistics step.

Here's how the support actually works, full article:

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝟰𝟲 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁.

After months of structural and mechanical work, the vision is finally coming to life. Wide plank flooring is down, the staircase is installed, and the kitchen is nearly complete. Crisp white upper cabinets contrast beautifully with rich navy base cabinets and island, while quartz countertops, a patterned tile backsplash, and matte black accents create a timeless, designer-inspired look.

Design credit to Jessica Sykora of Jackson Kitchen & Design, a trusted RCG design partner. Great design doesn't happen by accident. It happens through strong partnerships and attention to detail.

Outside, the new siding is complete and the lot is being graded as the project moves toward completion.

This is Part 4 of our 5-part home systems series from RCG Capital Advisory, and today we’re breaking down your furnace…aka your home’s warm-hearted hero.

It might sit quietly in the basement, but your furnace is doing some serious work behind the scenes.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀:
Your furnace is basically a pizza oven for your house…heating things up and sending that warmth everywhere.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻:

🔥 Thermostat = The Boss
When your house gets cold, it tells the furnace: “Time to work.”
👉 You set it, it runs the show

🔥 System Powers Up
The furnace kicks on and runs a quick safety check
👉 Like warming up before a workout

🔥 Fuel + Flame = Heat
Gas (or oil) ignites and creates heat
👉 This is where the magic starts

🔥 Heat Exchanger = The Safe Middleman
Transfers heat without letting harmful gases mix with your air
👉 Keeps things warm AND safe

🔥 Blower Fan = The Delivery System
Pushes warm air through your ducts into every room
👉 Like central heating on autopilot

🔥 Cycle & Repeat
Once your home hits the right temperature, it shuts off…until it’s needed again
👉 Efficient and automatic

💡 Did You Know?
• A well-maintained furnace can last 15–20 years
• Changing your filter regularly can lower energy bills and improve air quality
• Newer furnaces are significantly more energy-efficient than older models

🛠️ Quick Tip:
If your furnace stops working, check the thermostat, filter, and breaker first.
You’d be surprised how often it’s something simple.

Your furnace isn’t just heating your home…
It’s quietly keeping your entire space comfortable, safe, and livable.

Final up next: The kitchen sink…more complex than you think.

Follow along if you want to understand your home without needing to be handy.

Four-year college isn't the only path to a stable career. Trade programs run six months to two years, cost a fraction, and lead directly into work that's in demand.
