People always ask me what I think about AI in photography — just like they did when digital cameras took over.

“Is it going to ruin your business?”
“Is it any good?”
“How are you using it?”

My answer is simple: It is what it is. Embrace it, but be careful.

I’m lucky I learned lighting and photography on film — before the shutter even closed. Then I grinded through Photoshop, pixels, resolution, color temperature, white balance, and proper file management. Every stage was challenging… and incredibly rewarding.

I still remember spending hours learning clipping paths, removing backgrounds, blending, overlays, and layers — stuff that now happens with one click.

For this photo, I could say I did it the old-fashioned way and got it all in one shot… but I didn’t. I photographed the flags separately, shot the subject on a green screen, and pieced it all together.

What AI can’t do is the human side — building real relationships. This is a return customer I’ve worked with on multiple projects. He simply likes us and trusts our work. We didn’t even discuss price.

AI can’t build that kind of trust for you.

At the end of the day, if I can live with it, the customer is happy, and the bill is paid — I'm fine with it- thanks for listening.

After years of chasing that “perfect” shot, I decided to switch things up and try a completely different perspective — more artistic, more moody, less traditional.
Who knows if it actually worked or if anyone will even like these… but I had a blast experimenting. Big thanks to an awesome boat captain who was down for all my crazy angles and timing requests. What do you think?

A USNA Tradition Like No Other: The Herndon Climb ⚓️
If you’re not familiar with the Naval Academy, let me introduce you to one of its most famous rites of passage — the Herndon Climb.
Every spring, the newest plebes attempt to climb the 21-foot Herndon Monument — a greased granite obelisk covered in vegetable shortening. The goal? Work together as a human pyramid to swap the plebe “dixie cup” hat at the very top with an upperclassman’s cover. The moment that hat is placed, Plebe Year officially ends.
This morning, the Class of 2029 took on the challenge — just one day after completing a brutal 16-hour Sea Trials. Despite the exhaustion, they showed tremendous teamwork and spirit.
It took them 2 hours and 17 minutes to conquer the monument.
Huge congratulations to Lincoln Hedberg, who made it to the top and placed the hat! Many didn’t realize his mom is New Jersey Governor (USNA Class of 1994) and his dad is also a proud USNA grad from the same class. Service runs deep in this family.
This climb is more than a physical challenge — it’s a powerful symbol of perseverance, teamwork, and what it means to become a midshipman.
Proud of these future officers!
