LET'S TALK ABOUT IT
Let’s clear up a major misconception: a biblical "help meet" was never meant to be a personal assistant, a silent doormat, or a domestic gofer.
When God created woman as a "help meet" in Genesis 2:18, the original Hebrew used is Ezer Kenegdo—and the real meaning is powerful:
• EZER (Strength / Rescuer): This word appears over 20 times in scripture, most often describing God Himself as a strong protector, shield, and rescuer in battle. It is a title of spiritual power, wisdom, and strength—never subordination.
• KENEGDO (Face-to-Face Equal): An equal counterpart standing opposite him—someone of matching dignity and stature who looks him in the eye as an ally, not someone beneath him taking orders.
A true help meet is an equal partner designed to bring wisdom, strategy, and mutual strength to the covenant.
And while we’re at it, let’s look at the full picture of Proverbs 31:
• She was an autonomous entrepreneur who evaluated real estate, bought land with her own earnings, and ran business operations.
• She managed a team and had support in her household.
• Her husband actively celebrated and honored her for everything she did. He didn't micromanage her, dismiss her labor, or treat her like an errand runner.
Proverbs 31:28–31 says her husband stood up and praised her, declaring, "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." He openly recognized her effort, protected her dignity, and made sure she was publicly and privately honored for the fruit of her hands. Her hard work was met with deep gratitude, vocal praise, and genuine respect—not entitlement.
You cannot weaponize scripture to demand domestic servitude while skipping the biblical mandate to honor, cherish, and celebrate the woman standing beside you.
If we are walking according to the Word, Ephesians 5:25 calls husbands to love their wives just as Christ loved the church—laying down ego, serving with humility, and actively cherishing her heart. You cannot quote Genesis to demand service if you aren't living the Word that requires sacrificial love and vocal honor.
God created woman to stand beside a man as an honored, cherished, face-to-face equal. Know the difference, honor the value, and give credit where credit is due.
