Equipped to Flourish Lactation

Equipped to Flourish Lactation A fully virtual lactation doula support company. Hi I am Thea! Equipped to Flourish is a judgement-free environment!

We use a revolutionary holistic mode of care that starts with an intensive 8 week support model so you can have a have an empowered and supported 4th trimester. As a mother of two wonderful kids, aged 4 and 7, I developed a passion for lactation based on my own experiences. Although it wasn't my initial career path, becoming a mom ignited a desire in me to provide support to parents throughout the

ir prenatal and lactation journey, regardless of their unique circumstances. Having encountered a wide range of challenges during my own nursing and pumping journey between my children, I've gained valuable insights and the ability to empathize with the struggles new parents face. Whether your family is looking at becoming pregnant, have recently delivered and are lactating, or are looking to have a different lactation experience with subsequent children, we are here to support. We are dedicated to helping you achieve your baby feeding goals. We believe that you are meant to thrive, not just survive. Our goal is to come alongside you and your family to turn that vision into a reality.

I grew up in a small town in a very rural area. I could drive 5-10min and be surrounded by fields. I raised rabbits and showed them in 4H. I grew up gardening and canning what we grew. As an adult I raised chicken and turkeys.

I didn’t realize how much of this was part of the identity that I’d choose until I got older and moved away. Now I drive through fields and more than nostalgia for my hometown.

As we become moms we often lose touch with women we were before. We get lost in the new role of caring for another. This is normal and some is nessisary! You just can’t stay the same and embrace motherhood at the same time.

Along the journey though you catch glimpse of other parts of yourself. Parts that are not gone but that you haven’t had the chance to connect with in a while. Some you will choose to let go. Some you will feel nostalgia for. Some will spark a light within you.

I challenge you to give yourself moments to get to know yourself, to befriend yourself in this season. You aren’t the same woman you were before kids, you might not be the woman you expected either. The you that you find is enough, right now right where you are. Get to know her, sit with her, dream with her.

One of the amazing things about being a mom is that it give you freedom to reinvent yourself again and again if you let it. As you grow you get you try new things and reignite passions. You get to decide if you want chickens again or that’s something that should stay in the past (well at least for now 😉)

Whatever version of yourself you are at the moment, whether you like it, or feel lost, or searching, you are enough. You are still in there, more than mom. That’s who I’m here to support along this journey, you ❤️

Ideas and a challenge to try no screen time for your next session of nursing/pumping/feeding. Doing this will allow you to help your nervous system regulate. Allow you to be present and maybe check in with your body and emotions. This may seem small but it will help your overall mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Plus it’s using the time you already have! Bonus, if your nursing or pumping you will have an easier time letting down and removing milk if you are relaxed and doing something you enjoy!

I know its not only me!

This week after lots of travel and migraines I felt a slightly better. So I of course decided to attack a project at home. At the time it seemed like a great idea. I hadn’t been able to do much and felt like I needed to feel productive.

You know that feeling, the one where you need to do stuff because you’re not doing enough? That feeling that your worth is equal to what you get done……that you feel guilty for taking down time even if you legitimately need it.

Yeah…

I totally get that! After I did that cleaning that I thought was sooo necessary, I felt 10xs worse than I did before. I should have given myself space to rest and the permission to do so. It’s an easy thing to forget unless you constantly have people in your life speaking into that area.

I know many other women and moms feel the same way. This is especially true in your postpartum period. I see moms feel that they need to DO things once they get home with baby. They feel that any energy they have needs to be used to do something at home.

It is true that things need to be done and you will have to do some of them, but you also need to plan for help. Make a postpartum plan just like you’ve made a birth plan. In that plan list things that you will need help with and who you can ask to fill those needs.

Create space now for you to rest and heal. This is not the time to DO more. Feeding and caring for yourself and your baby are a huge task and all you need to focus on. Give yourself permission to do those and rest in all the small moments you can find! I promise they won’t last long and you’ll want to sn**ch them!

You need someone supporting and reminding you of all you are doing. Our clients have that support and encouragement One of the things we talk about is how to give yourself permission to rest and be. We discuss how to talk to your partner and other to get you the help you need. We are also there to support you and give you peace of mind knowing your are healing and feeding your baby in the best ways possible. We are there to shine a light on you all are doing!

We all need a cheerleaders in our lives! We need loved ones and professionals to validate what we are doing. If you need to hear that today, I’m here to remind you and myself! You are worth more than what you do and resting is productive

Then life throws you an adventure undead of sticking to your plan. You
It’s don’t have control of yourself, the situation, your partner, or your baby.

Do you give up on your dreams and hopes for your new life with your baby?

No!!!!

But you will have to take stock, make a new plan, and be willing to try something new.

What my kids really needed today wasn’t someone to tell them what to do. They needed someone who was going to help them reset, have a new vision, lead them there, and then give them encouragement when it was hard.

That’s what you need too. When things don’t go to plan (or better yet before baby comes) you need someone you trust to not tell you what to do, but instead give you guidance, support, ideas to move forward, and lots of encouragement when things are hard.

If you have that person, it doesn’t change that things are hard, but it makes it possible to still achieve your hopes and keep finding new adventures to celebrate.

Sound like the support you want as you plan for your baby?

Or maybe you’re in crisis now and need help.

We are here to support you and help you achieve your dreams of postpartum
motherhood and breastfeeding/pumping. Send us a DM. Let’s see if we make a great adventuring team!

We are here to help you find the next play ground or find the joy in the one you have ❤️

Ever make a plan and it’s work to get there, then it’s a total disappointment!?!? Ahhhh so frustrating!

I see this happen with a lot of new parents.

That’s what happened to me and my kids today. We decided to walk/bike to the park today. It was a struggle to get out the door and stay together. Plus I’m still trying to get over a migraine and my patience is low. Well, we got to the park and everyone was happy till we found a wasps nest!! My kids are terrified, afternoon got swamped a few summers ago.

Well what to do? Give up and go home? Nope! I told the kids another mom told me there was a park further up the path, did they want to try?

Yes they did! Into the unknown! ( cue the Elsa music) My son said, well we are on an adventure so let’s go look!

We found the playground…as you can see in the picture it’s clearly meant for toddlers up to 5. My kids are older and love a challenge, like the 12y park.

Time to give up and go home or whine? Nope let’s give it a try! Ok well there was some whining. But 10 min in they had figured it out and were having fun. Not the way the playground was intended but we made the best of it!

Being a new parent is often like this. You have an idea of what life will be like when your baby comes home. You have a vision of what your maternity leave will be like. You dream of nursing your baby and that time together.
