Something to think about when it comes to pest management.
Most people assume the device gets stronger over time. The mice assume the opposite, and they're right.
Habituation is the catch nobody mentions on the packaging. When an animal hears a steady, harmless sound over and over, its brain files it as noise and stops responding. Caged rodent studies show this happening within hours to a few days with ultrasonic devices. After that, the animals feed, travel, and breed as if the device weren't there. Some researchers have documented mice nesting and raising young within a couple of feet of an active unit.
There's a quiet irony here: the warmth from the device's electronics and the outlet can actually make that corner more appealing, not less. Some homeowners later find droppings and gnaw marks right around the thing they bought to keep mice away.
Real exclusion doesn't habituate. A sealed gap stays sealed. A snap trap stays lethal. Steel wool packed into a hole behind a stove does its job in year three the same as day one. That's where your effort should go. [Q3N76]
