Drill or impact driver? 🤔

If you’re new to power tools, they can look like basically the same tool. But there’s a difference.

A drill/driver is a great everyday tool for drilling holes and driving screws.

An impact drivergives you more driving power and is especially useful for longer screws and tougher jobs.

The good news? You don’t have to know everything before you pick up a power tool. You just need to start.

We’ll be getting hands-on with both during She Fixes: Power Tools 101 on October 10.

Come learn, practice, and get comfortable using the tools for yourself.

October Home Check! 🍂🏠

Before colder weather arrives, now is a good time to give your home a quick once-over.

✔️ Check your HVAC filter
✔️ Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
✔️ Look for drafts around windows and doors
✔️ Check under sinks for signs of leaks
✔️ Take a look at your gutters and outdoor drainage

You don’t need to tackle the whole list today. Choose one or two things this weekend and get them done.

Small home maintenance habits can help you catch problems before they become expensive repairs.

Do you know what emergency services your city or county provides?

We spend a lot of time preparing our homes, but knowing your local resources is just as important.

Check your city or county website for emergency alerts, severe weather information, shelters, evacuation guidance, utility updates, and other community resources.

A good goal for this week: find your local emergency management page, sign up for alerts, and save the information in your phone.

Being prepared also means knowing where to find help when you need it.

Confession: half of us have a "junk drawer" and call it an emergency kit. A dead flashlight, one AA battery, and a mystery key that doesn't open anything. 😅

Let's fix that.
A REAL emergency kit:
🔦 Flashlight that actually turns on (test it, we'll wait)
🔧 Shut-off wrench (not the random one from 2019)
🩹 Duct tape (the answer to 90% of home problems)
🪣 A bucket (for the "why is there water on my ceiling" moments)
🧤 Gloves (mystery substances deserve a barrier)
🔌 A charger that isn't tangled with 12 others
Put it in a bin. Label it. Stop pretending the junk drawer counts.

If something goes wrong at home tonight, could you handle it with what's already in your house?

Tools every homeowner should have on hand:
🔧 Adjustable wrench (for shutting off water valves)
🔧 Flashlight + extra batteries
🔧 Screwdriver set (flathead and Phillips)
🔧 Duct tape and plumber's tape
🔧 Utility knife
🔧 Work gloves
🔧 Bucket (for catching leaks before they spread)

None of this is expensive. Most of it fits in a small bin under your sink or in a closet. The goal isn't to have everything. It's to have what you need, when you need it.
