Mounting a TV on drywall can bring a new level of style and function to your space—all with your own two hands. With the right approach, you achieve a clean, sturdy setup and save yourself time and hassle.
Start by gathering your essential tools: a stud finder, drill, level, tape measure, pencil, and the mounting kit that fits your TV. Every solid installation begins with good prep, so place all tools within arm’s reach.
Next, confirm your preferred viewing height and mark the spot with a pencil. Stud location ensures safety—use a stud finder to trace the studs behind your drywall. Mark both edges for accuracy. Level your bracket before drilling pilot holes directly into the center of the stud marks. Pro tip: Sometimes other stuff inside the wall can be too close to the backside of the drywall and cause a false reading from a stud finder. You can use a magnet to double check that you've located a stud. Drywall will be secured to the stud with screws, and the magnet will attach to the screws along the length of the stud.
Attach the mounting bracket to the wall, then secure the matching plate to the back of your TV. With each piece in place, lift and hang the TV onto the bracket, double-checking each connection.
A few expert tips: When in doubt, measure again. Check your level frequently for a straight finish. Secure all fasteners tightly, and never rush the process.
