We had an amazing time visiting Wakefield Forest Elementary School last week! ♻️

We had the pleasure of partnering with Wakefield Forest for their Open House (Wednesday April 9th) to promote Glass Recycling in their community as a part of Earth Month! The Green Team at Wakefield is committed to Fairfax County Public Schools' Get2Green Program, and we were proud to support their mission!

Then, on Thursday April 10th, our team also had the pleasure of hosting a Touch-A-Truck event where Kindergarten and 1st Grade students were taught all about the importance of recycling. 🌍✨ The best part? The kids even got to sit in the truck and see what it's like to be behind the scenes of waste and recycling collection! 🚛💚

Thank you, Wakefield Forest ES, for letting us be part of your day — educating the next generation is always an honor!

♻️🏀🏆March Recycle Madness: WORST Recycle Loser ANNOUNCED! 🏆🏀♻️

After an intense bracket battle, the worst of the worst has been crowned... and the title goes to Lithium Batteries! 🔋🔥

These tiny powerhouses may fuel our phones, laptops, and electric cars—but they are extremely dangerous in your curbside recycling bin. Lithium-ion batteries are incredibly hard to dispose of properly and can cause FIRE hazards inside trucks or waste facilities due to their reactive materials.

⚠️ REMEMBER: Lithium batteries DO NOT belong in your recycling bin. Please dispose of them at designated battery drop-off or hazardous waste collection locations!

⚠️ REMEMBER: All of the items shown on the bracket DO NOT belong in your recycling bin.

Let’s keep our team (and trucks!) safe—thank you for recycling smart! 💚♻️

CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND OF MARCH MADNESS WITH EVERGREEN DISPOSAL! 🏆

We’re down to the FINAL ROUND— and it’s a tough one! Who will be crowned the Champion as the WORST recycling offender?

Lithium Batteries 🆚 Chip Bags
👍Like for Lithium Batteries👍
❤️ Love for Chip Bags ❤️

Why can't I recycle these?
➡️Lithium Batteries – they can spark fires and create serious safety hazards
➡️ Chip Bags – Made of mixed materials that can't be properly recycled and can jam up sorting machines.

🗳️ Cast your vote NOW and help us decide which of these recycling losers is the ULTIMATE CHAMPION!

🔥 ROUND SIX RESULTS: WE HAVE A LOSER! 🔥

Chip Bags have taken the win in Round Six of March Madness with Evergreen Disposal! 🎉

🔎 Why Chip Bags? Chip bags are made of mixed materials, making them difficult to process properly — which means they DO NOT belong in your recycling bin! Due to their mixed materials, chip bags get caught in the star screens at recycling facilities. A star screen is a type of industrial screening equipment designed to separate materials based on size. It consists of rotating shafts with star-shaped discs that create a screening surface — and chip bags can clog up the machinery, causing costly delays and breakdowns!

💡 Why are Plastic Utensils also a problem?
❌ They get stuck in sorting machinery, making them a nightmare for facilities.
❌ They’re made from mixed plastics that aren’t easily recyclable.
✅ Instead: Use metal utensils and simply wash them! Easy swap, big impact!

Even though chip bags won this round, plastic utensils remain a big offender in recycling contamination! Keep them both OUT of your bin and help us keep recycling clean. ✅

👏 Thanks for voting, and stay tuned for the final round! Who will be crowned the ultimate recycling fail? 🏆

Chip Bags 🆚 Plastic Utensils
👍Like for Chip Bags 👍
❤️ Love for Plastic Utensils ❤️

Why can't I recycle these?
➡️ Chip Bags – Made of mixed materials that can't be properly recycled and can jam up sorting machines.
➡️ Plastic Utensils – Too small to be sorted properly and can get stuck in the machinery.
