This isn’t Western North Carolina water. This isn’t the water that’s left. It’s not the water that forever changed the hills and valleys, the hearts, and lives that are home. This is the Georgia water I’m looking at with the thousand mile stare of Helene.

I’m here four days after my 97 year old grandmother’s successful hip surgery. She’s walking around. Hell she’s hauling ass by any measure of someone who had major surgery. She’s hailing ass for any 97 year old. She’s on a walker, but hauling ass. She’s strong and determined and stubborn and brave.

Our waters at home will haunt us for a long time but our strength as a community runs deep. See you tomorrow Swannanoa and Black Mountain. You’ll always be home because of each and every one of you.

Has anyone heard from Charlie Sthul? He lives at the bottom of the old dirt road to Old Fort from Black Mountain. Couldn’t get to his house from either side when I tried.

We’ve been volunteering out of Silverados with a group called ARG. They moved us to Camp Dorothy Walls on Grovemont Ave in black mountain yesterday. They have a ton of info and resources for anything from supplies like chainsaw blades to medication refills for folks to helicopters, box trucks and heavy machinery. They are collecting a ton of really organized info. to be able to continue to help people through the winter. While you’re out helping people it would be awesome to bring a pen and pad and write down street names, people’s names and numbers as well as their needs no matter how big or small and drop that list off with ARG so that they can deliver supplies. Thank you for all you’re doing to help!

Five Star Asheville is on hold indefinitely. I am volunteering out of Silverados and and trying to adjust to new normal. I will update at a later time and will discuss with homeowners who still have liveable properties if they are willing or able to open their homes to locals at reasonable rates. 💜

We’re gathering supplies and coming back with enough to be self sufficient for a week and the energy to help. We don’t have a ton of funds but if anyone needs anything specific please let me know and we will try to help if we can in any way that we can. My people in Swannanoa and Black Mountain are saying supplies are coming but they need manpower. I’ll be back asap with boots on.

With limited space and funds what’s the most impact for things to bring back? We’re near a tractor supply and Walmart and can take Venmo for larger ticket items like boots and hazmat suits if we can find them.
