Although we’ve had nearly a year to prepare, we were still unready for the emotions that came. In the spring of 2025, Ingrid shared that she—along with her partner, Camille, and their dog, Bono—would be moving to Puerto Rico.
The news was bittersweet for Cenzontle: so much excitement for Ingrid’s next chapter, and so much sadness knowing she would be leaving our day-to-day work.
Ingrid’s journey with Cenzontle began in the summer of 2022, when she attended our Community Interpreter Training. Something lit up for her there—a flicker that quickly turned into deep connection with language justice and this community. When we later reached out with a small employment opportunity, Ingrid jumped in wholeheartedly, wasting no time getting her hands into the work.
In a poetic full-circle moment, she eventually stepped into facilitation alongside Monse, finding herself on the other side of the trainings that first welcomed her in. Ingrid dove into our systems and software with care and precision, often noticing details and possibilities we hadn’t yet explored. She consistently brought a fresh perspective, challenged systems of oppression, and spoke up for inclusivity and equity. Beyond her role as a Worker-Owner, Ingrid showed up with so much love—as a collaborator, a thinker, and a friend.
While Ingrid will be pausing (we’re not saying ending!) in-person work in 2026—Puerto Rico to Asheville is no small trip—she’ll continue supporting Cenzontle through virtual work. So our virtual clients may still see her pop up on Zoom from time to time! And yes, she already has tentative plans to visit this summer when we interpret In The Heights 👀✨ (stay tuned for more on that soon).
Ingrid, we wish you, Camille, and Bono all the best in this next chapter. Only a month into 2026, and we already feel your absence. Gracias for everything you’ve given to Cenzontle. We promise to carry forward and grow the systems you helped build—and to keep a little Ingrid in our ear, regañándonos con amor, reminding us to be brave and saying, “You got this, girl.”
Hasta muy, muy pronto. Thank you for everything, Ingrid

¿Te animas a escribir tu propia calaverita?
Etiquétanos o mándanos la tuya — queremos leerlas y compartirlas con nuestra comunidad.
This Día de Mu***os, we celebrate the tradition of calaveritas literarias — playful verses that invite us to laugh at death and lovingly remember those who are no longer with us. These rhymes, full of humor and heart, help us keep memory alive and connect with our roots with love and a touch of laughter. 🕯️💀

We’d love to share one written from the heart of our cooperative — and now it’s your turn! 💫
Feeling inspired to write your own calaverita?
Tag us or send yours our way — we’d love to read them and share them with our community.

Have you ever hosted an event, lined up interpreters, and still found that no Spanish-speaking participants showed up? Read this informative blog to learn about some practices to consider if you wish to create genuine multilingual spaces.

Why? When we create multilingual spaces, we’re challenging systems that have long prioritized white, English-dominant norms. We’re saying: everyone deserves to participate fully. Everyone deserves to be heard and understood. We do this not only so no one is left out—but because the conversations we’re having, and the change we’re building, are incomplete without them.

🎓Graduation Season = Language Justice in Action

This month, our co-op had the deep honor of supporting two incredible college graduations: McDowell Technical Community College and Warren Wilson College.
As interpreters, we don’t just convert words — we open the doors for families to fully feel these moments. To hear their loved one’s name called. To understand the words of encouragement. To feel proud. To celebrate fully.

For so many first-generation graduates, these ceremonies are not just for them — they’re for their whole families. And we were thrilled to be a small part of making those experiences accessible, joyful, and deeply affirming.

McDowell Tech went above and beyond — coordinating with us in advance, translating speeches and agendas, ensuring we had what we needed to provide real-time Spanish interpretation from the stage. One professor even gave their speech in both English and Spanish ¡Eso es amor!
And yes — there was even a song in Spanish. We were moved!
Shout out to the WWC too — the joy, the pride, the love in the room was palpable.
Language access is not a luxury. It’s a right. It’s inclusion. It’s celebration. It’s love.
Here’s to every graduate — and every parent, sibling, tío, abuelita, and chosen family member who made the journey to be there. We’re honored to be with you

We will be providing interpretation at the East Henderson High graduation ceremony tomorrow! See yall there!
