The joyful wonder of understanding the universe by studying minerals, meteorites, and all the related sciences is the best state of being. I am so fortunate to be able to make a living, as humble as it may be, by swimming through these waters. I am able to retain only a small fraction of the information I am exposed to, but over time it adds up to a real feeling for the uninterrupted connectedness of this space and timeline I find myself in. That emotion is as close to religious or spiritual experience that I have ever had, or perhaps it exceeds those modalities by some margin, I may never know.
