Marketing works the same way everywhere โ€” but the message changes everything. A cleaning company can close a customer on the first ad. An artist can't. Nobody buys music from someone they've never heard of. You have to go through stages. Brand awareness first. Then once the audience knows who you are the sales follow naturally.

Independent artists with no leverage sign whatever is put in front of them because they feel like they have no choice. High commission rates. Unfavorable contract terms. Long lock-in periods. They accept it all because they need the help.

But artists who come to the table with real numbers and real momentum negotiate from a position of strength. They can push back. They can walk away. They can find the manager that actually fits.

Your leverage before the contract is your protection inside the contract.

Most artists run ads without a clear target and wonder why nothing sticks. The fix is simple โ€” milestones. Start at 1000 views and 100 subs. Once you hit that move to 10,000 views and 1000 subs. Each milestone tells you if your campaign is performing and gives you a reason to keep pushing.
