Even when you think you're prepared, grief has a way of revealing just how much you didn't know.

Jennifer came to us already equipped, and still found boundless value in having a certified After Loss Professional in her corner. That's the reality of loss: the details are endless, and you shouldn't have to navigate them alone.

We handle the small things and the big ones, all with compassion. Every survivor deserves this kind of support. We'd be honored to be yours.

Words like these remind us exactly why we do this work. 🤍

Losing a loved one is hard enough. Losing three in five months, while being responsible for navigating their estates, is an almost unimaginable burden. We're so honored to have walked alongside Katie during one of the most difficult seasons of her life.

If you or someone you know is facing the overwhelming task of managing an estate while grieving, you don't have to figure it out alone.

Most people mean well. They just don’t always know what to say...

Most people aren’t trying to say the wrong thing. They just panic in the quiet...

So they reach for something to fill it.
A silver lining. A platitude. A sentence that lands… off.

If you’ve been on the receiving end of that, you’re not too sensitive.
Some things just don’t help when you’re in it.

And if you’re trying to support someone and don’t know what to say—
simple and honest will always go further than “perfect.”

Save this for the moments when words feel high-stakes.

You handled the will. The POA. The directives. ✔️
Gold star energy, truly.

But here’s the part nobody puts on the checklist:

👉 Can your family actually access money when they need it most?

When the worst happens, banks can freeze accounts, probate takes its sweet time, and suddenly your people are trying to cover a $7–8K funeral… out of pocket… while grieving.

Not exactly the legacy you had in mind.

This week on the blog, Rachel breaks down the piece of estate planning most people miss — making sure your loved ones aren’t stuck in a financial maze on top of everything else.

Think of it like this:
You paid for dinner. Great.
But did you leave the tip?

We're starting now, it's fine! 🙃

There is no timeline for this. No deadline you missed. No point at which it becomes "too late" to get things in order.

Life happens. Grief happens. Sometimes the stack of paperwork sits on the counter for six months because just looking at it is too much. I get it.

If you've been putting this off because you didn't know where to start, or because it felt too heavy to face alone, that's exactly what I'm here for. We start where you are, no judgement. 🤍

No, seriously. The 2am rabbit holes. The searches you deleted because they felt too morbid. The questions you were afraid to ask the funeral home, the lawyer, the anyone.

This is a safe place to ask them. 👇

I'll read and answer every comment — and if your question is one I'm hearing a lot, it might just become its own post. 🤍

Nobody hands you a manual when someone dies. 🤍

If you've ever tried to Google your way through estate administration at midnight, you already know the answers aren't exactly just there.

In our latest blog post, Rachel talks about the hold music, the weird questions, and the skill nobody talks about (hint: it's not what you'd expect from someone who does this every day).

April is Stress Awareness Month, and if you're an executor, a caregiver, or someone navigating loss right now, this one's for you.

Grief is already one of the most physically and emotionally taxing experiences a person can go through. And yet, the moment someone passes, the to-do list begins. The stress of after loss is real. It's documented. And it's wildly undertalked about.

This month, we're shining a light on what that stress actually looks like for the people doing the hard work, and sharing a few ways to make it feel more manageable.

Swipe through for a closer look, and save this post if you know someone in the middle of it.

You weren't meant to do this alone. AfterLight is here to help you organize the "after" so you can find your way back to yourself.

One of my favorite accounts, , recently got me thinking. Their page sometimes features park rangers sharing the wildest questions they get from visitors.

At first, it's easy to laugh at… until you realize something important:

People aren’t dumb. They just haven’t been taught.

I see the exact same thing in estate planning every single day.

👉 “I have a will, so my family avoids probate… right?”
👉 “Power of attorney means I’m still in charge after they die?”
👉 “I can just add my kid to the deed to make things easier?”

These aren’t bad questions.
They’re the right questions—just often asked too late (or not at all).

So if something has been sitting in the back of your mind… this is your sign to ask it.

No judgment. No “dumb questions.” Just clarity.

One year ago, this book went out into the world with a big, hopeful goal:

Help families avoid the chaos, confusion, and “what do we even do now?” moments that so often follow a loss.

Since then, this book has made its way into your homes, your hard conversations, your “we’ve been meaning to do this” moments. It’s been shared between spouses, parents, adult children, and friends who just want to make things a little easier for the people they love someday.

That’s the whole point. 🤍

So yes… we’re celebrating the first birthday of this slightly unconventional “baby”, complete with cake, balloons, and (of course) a little planning for the future.

If you’ve read it, thank you for trusting me with something so personal.

If you’ve been meaning to… consider this your sign and grab your copy at the link below. Your future self (and your family) will thank you.

Here’s to one year of choosing legacy over logjam, and to many more families feeling a little more prepared because of it! ✨

This time of year always makes me pause a bit. With graduation season on the horizon and my son finishing high school soon, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it really means to prepare for what’s next.

Not just the exciting milestones, but the quieter, often overlooked kind of preparation too.

Sometimes that looks like getting documents in place. And sometimes, it’s simply starting to think about it at all.

What’s one thing you did this month to prepare for your future? Big or small, it counts!

Planning ahead, getting organized, starting a conversation...
