One of the things I treasure most is time spent connecting, celebrating, and creating memories with the people who make life special.

**Safari Day 1: Welcome to the wild! 🦒🌿🇿🇦**

We made it to Pilanesberg—and just arriving already felt like part of the adventure.

Our home for the next few days is the beautiful **Ivory Tree Game Lodge**, surrounded by the natural beauty of Pilanesberg. From the African-inspired surroundings to the peacefulness of being away from the city, it was the perfect place to settle in and begin our safari experience.

There’s something special about arriving at a safari lodge. You know you’re about to experience something completely different—early morning game drives, evenings in the bush, incredible wildlife, and hopefully a few members of the **Big Five**! 🦁🐘🦏🐆🐃

But before the game drives began, we took some time to explore the lodge, settle in, and simply take it all in.

We’re in Africa. We’re on safari. And the adventure is just beginning. ❤️

One of the best parts of traveling? The FOOD! 😋🍽️

We’ve enjoyed some incredible meals during our time in Johannesburg, but I have to give a special shoutout to one of my favorites—**TANG**, right in Nelson Mandela Square.

The food was delicious, the atmosphere was beautiful, and it was definitely one of those dining experiences that makes you say, “Oh yes…we’re coming back!” 😂

For me, food is such an important part of experiencing a destination. It gives you another way to connect with a place, discover new flavors, and create memories around the table with the people you’re traveling with.

South Africa’s story cannot be told from just one perspective. 🇿🇦

Our time in Pretoria gave us another opportunity to explore the different people, events, and experiences that helped shape this fascinating country.

From the Voortrekker Monument and its connection to Afrikaner history, to Freedom Park’s reflection on conflict, resistance, liberation, reconciliation, and democracy, each place offered another perspective.

We also encountered the legacy of Paul Kruger throughout Pretoria, from his statue in Church Square to the historic Kruger House.

One city. Different histories. Different perspectives. And so much to learn.

What I’ve enjoyed most about experiencing South Africa is going beyond what we’ve simply read in books. Standing in these places, hearing their stories, and seeing them for ourselves gives history a different meaning.

This is why I believe travel can be so much more than a vacation. It can educate us, challenge our perspective, connect us with different cultures, and change the way we see the world. 🌍

Pretoria — where South Africa’s history comes alive. 🇿🇦

Our South Africa journey continued with a visit to Pretoria, a city filled with history, beautiful architecture, and places that carry powerful stories from the past.

One of the highlights was the iconic Union Buildings, where Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as South Africa’s first democratically elected president in 1994. Standing there and seeing his statue overlooking the city was a powerful reminder of hope, unity, and reconciliation.

We also explored historic Church Square and learned more about the important events that took place in this part of Pretoria.

There is something different about learning history when you’re standing in the very places where it happened.

This is another reason we believe travel should be about more than simply seeing beautiful destinations. It’s about exploring, learning, understanding, and experiencing the stories that shaped a place.

THIS is why we travel. ❤️🇿🇦

Not just for the passport stamps.
Not just for the beautiful pictures.
And not just to say, “I've been there.”

We travel to experience something new.
To learn from the places we visit.
To taste the food.
To laugh with the people we're traveling with.
To connect with a culture.
And sometimes, to understand a little more about the world—and a little more about ourselves.

Our time in South Africa brought all of those moments together.

From learning at the Apartheid Museum, to exploring Johannesburg, experiencing Soweto, sharing a meal, laughing together, and simply being present in the moment—this trip gave us memories AND perspective.

And honestly, experiencing those moments as a group made them even more meaningful.

That is what I want people to understand about traveling with Life Luxe Travel. It's not simply about checking destinations off a list. It's about creating experiences, making connections, and coming home with stories you'll still be talking about years later.

Then came SOWETO. 🇿🇦

This was one of those days that reminded us why getting out and truly experiencing a destination matters.

We toured. We learned. We walked through the community. We experienced the culture. We heard stories. And, of course, we ate! 🙌🏾🍽️

There is something special about experiencing a place through the people who call it home. You get to see more than the highlights—you begin to understand the history, culture, traditions, and everyday life that make the destination what it is.

Soweto wasn't simply another stop on our itinerary. It became another layer of our South Africa experience, and I'm so glad we made the time to experience it.

And after a full day of exploring, you KNOW lunch was part of the assignment! 😋

Some travel experiences are fun.

Some are beautiful.

And then there are the experiences that make you slow down, listen, learn, and reflect.

Our visit to the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg was one of those experiences.

Walking through the museum and learning more about South Africa’s history allowed us to reflect on struggle, resilience, freedom, and the people whose courage helped shape a nation.

This is one of the reasons I believe cultural experiences are such an important part of travel. We don't just travel to see beautiful places or take photographs. We travel to learn something about the people, history, culture, and stories that make a destination what it is.

We left the museum with much more than photographs. We left with stories to think about and conversations to remember.

That’s the kind of travel experience that stays with you.
