CONTROLLER (Los Angeles, CA) This is not a remote position.
The Controller provides financial and administrative services and ensures the accuracy of operations. The Controller is responsible for providing accounting support to the Staff Accountant department. Responsibilities include correcting, processing and reconciling a wide variety of accounting documents such as invoices, employee reimbursements, cash receipts, vendor statements, journal vouchers/entries, and accounts receivable. Assist with coding financial information; prepare and process documents to disburse funds, make deposits and prepare reports; prepare monthly bank reconciliations; compile and review information for accuracy; maintain records. Work with the CPA, Financial Consultant, Bankers and owners.
Key Responsibilities: Responsible for the Accounting department. Duties include, but not limited to:
- Maintain accurate and complete records and post adjustments as needed.
- Review recurring payment schedule report for any issues before the end of the month.
- Developing and Tracking budget expenses.
- Ensures operations of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
- Protects assets by establishing monitoring, maintaining and enforcing internal controls.
- Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits (with CPA) and providing information to external auditors.
- Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing and consolidating financial data.
- Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances, initiating corrective actions. Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting and reporting financial data.
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
- Works with 401 (k) provider and administrators.
- Analyzing all financial information.
- Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assessing employees.
- Work with the Staff Accountant on reviewing reports by performing research and correct any adjustments in ledgers.
- Work with staff members on reporting projects, program expense progress reports, etc.
- Process payroll.
- Prepare P&L statements.
- Balance sheet reconciliations and resolutions of account discrepancies.
- Daily monitoring and reporting of bank activity.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
- Verify GL balance and maintain supporting schedules for GL accounts.
- Prepare financial statements.
- Prepare and record journal entries.
- Audit reporting.
- Special projects as requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):
- Previous experience in banking, accounting or similar business environment helpful, but not necessary.
- Excellent at multitasking.
- Good people skills and effective communication skills.
- Auditing, accounting and corporate finance.
- Developing budgets.
- Familiarity with Excel functions.
- Familiarity with Paylocity, Novatime and/or other SaaS companies.
- Ability to compare data from a variety of sources for accuracy and completeness.
- Good understanding of GAAP.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to detect errors and recommend suggestions to correct/revise.
- Organizational skills and ability to prioritize workflow.
- Ability to meet deadlines and adhere to schedules.
- Detail oriented with exceptional follow-through and problem solving skills.
- Build and maintain partnerships across all departments to facilitate quality support & business excellence.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Two to four years of experience as a Controller desired.
