I know you are all amazed by the continuing rise in real estate prices. When I look at the growth in REITs over the last few years I cannot help but think that speculation in the Market is fueling the rise. A REIT is a Real Estate Investment Trust. It works like buying a stock but instead of investing in a company, the investment is in Real Estate. The company manages the real estate but the risk is with the investor. When we look at the profile of one REIT, Blackstone, you can see the huge increase in their portfolio of real estate. This huge change in price over such a short period is troublesome. For people who are looking to sell this is a great time to move properties. Land has never been more liquid.
