I recently listened to an uplifting podcast. Brené Brown interviewed Edith Eger – a 93 year old psychologist, author and holocaust survivor.

Edi (as she refers to herself) says “I call Auschwitz an opportunity, like everything else in life.”

Wow.

Migraine can feel like imprisonment and torture – being trapped in our body, tormented by our pain. I cannot compare it to an internment camp like Auschwitz, comparison is not helpful. But I will say, migraine can create trauma.

Edi says, “we will all experience trauma, pain and loss.” But she also says, “It’s good to feel your feelings.” It’s ok to acknowledge our pain and say ‘I don’t like this,’ but we must allow ourselves to feel.

Take some time today to honor the goddess energy within you – acknowledging that your sensitivity and ability to FEEL is part of what makes you so incredibly powerful, even when it hurts.

In honor of International Women’s Day, I’m sharing this podcast so that you might find some positivity from this powerful woman. You can listen on Spotify by searching Unlocking Us and selecting Edith Eger’s episode or you can listen on Brene Brown’s website.

Dear friend 💙
Although the message below is short, it represents what I'm finally learning from a long history of sadness and pain. It is with a tender heart that I share it with you, and pray you feel seen and are lifted by it. 🙏💙

Acceptance doesn’t = approval - it means you see the truth of what is and no longer struggle against the present moment.
Letting Go doesn't = giving up - it means you release the need to control and realize you have the freedom to choose your next step.

Be at peace knowing you have what it takes to handle whatever life brings you. And when life gets tough (as it does for us with migraine and chronic pain), come back to your breath.

May your 2021 be filled with acceptance, letting go, happiness, joy, and laughter.

love, Sarah

Migraine and mental health are two peas in a painful pod.
I am living proof of this.
If you can relate,
I see you.
I see your incredible strength.
And, I encourage you as well as myself -
Love Yourself Unconditionally.
Acknowledge your strength.
Reach out to loved ones and professionals for support,
we are meant to help and be helped.
Move your body with your breath.
Put your bare feet to the Earth and taste fresh air.
And most importantly,
LOVE YOURSELF.
You deserve it.

Hi my beloved friend,

It's been a while since I've checked in. 💛

I'm wondering, how are you feeling?
And, what do you need right now?

If you are feeling overwhelmed by pain or emotions, or just not sure what you need -
I find that getting in touch with my breath is the best way to find peace and clarity.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to connect to my breath ...

1. Take a walk - and try going somewhere new, preferably in nature!
A change of scenery will shake things up, providing new perspective and JOY.
Plus, being in nature for 20 min. is proven to reduce stress (specifically cortisol)!
Enjoy the fresh air and notice how it affects your breathing.

2. Do some yoga, maybe practice with me in one of the videos on our website. 🤗 link in bio ✨
The first video on the page is perfect during a migraine,
and contains breathing exercises specifically to help soothe migraine pain.
So if you need some relief, give it a try. 💛

3. Resting in child's pose (pictured above).
How to : bring your toes to touch, knees apart at a comfortable width,
extend your arms forward and allow your hips to sink back towards your heels -
lengthening your spine and low back.
(Alternatively you can bring your knees together and arms by your sides, whatever feels best.)
Your forehead will rest on the mat
which helps release tension stored there from stress and migraine episodes.
*Expert tip*: think about the skin of your forehead pulling towards your nose -
this will allow your eyes to close easily
and your nervous system to relax.
Count your breaths and notice the sensations in your body.

I would love to hear from you so please reach out!

I am sending you hugs and prayers of peace.

love, Sarah

“Great {humans} are those who can smile when everything falls apart.” Ella Wheeler Wilcox

I might not be great,
but the one place
which always helps me
find strength for an inner smile,
even during a year like 2020,
is on my yoga mat.

I began practicing yoga to help my body feel better, but I continue to practice because it is my sanctuary, like coming home. 🖤🕉🦋

Happy International Yoga Day,
one day late 🙈
