One of the simplest ways to encourage new habits is to make them obvious. If you find yourself saying, “I keep forgetting to do the laundry,” then you probably don’t have any visual cues to go off of when you forget. Though decluttering your home is incredibly vital in creating a peaceful space, leaving some things out on the counter as a visual cue will ensure that you follow through on a new habit (which is equally as important).
Here are some things that I do in my own space to set visual cues for habits:
🔹Spray bottle of water on the counter to mist my high-maintenance plants a few times a day
🔹”Did I Feed The Dog” tracker to remind the family to feed the dog, and to know if it’s already been done
🔹 Vitamins on the counter in plain sight. I am a lover of a clear countertop so seeing these in the kitchen bothers my eye line enough to make me take them each day. Once they go in the cabinet I forget to take them.
🔹Broom by the breakfast table ensures that when crumbs fall, I sweep them up. It takes two seconds and I do it without thinking when the broom is sitting right there.
🔹 Leave the light on in the laundry room until the laundry is done. We are big around here with turning off lights when we leave the rooms. So if I leave the light on in the laundry room, it’s hard for me to forget to throw the clothes into the dryer when I walk upstairs and see that light on.
What are the cleaning and organizing habits you need to create? What can you do to make the habit obvious to your brain? 🧠 💡

“I’m just not an organized person.”
“I don’t have any time to keep a clean house.”
“I have too many other things competing for my attention. Laundry will have to wait.”
If you have spent a while struggling to put good housekeeping and organizing habits into place (or ANY NEW HABIT) , then I highly recommend this book. .habits_ logically lays out the ways to reframe your life and thought process in order to make incremental changes that project into big changes. This is a book that describes how much more successful a habit will be in the long run if we start small up-front. Change things by 1% each day and you’ll eventually reach your goal.
It’s been a rough start to 2021 around here, so I needed this boost! Highly recommend it to you all as well.

Ladies: Who has one of these small toilet closet areas with zero storage for their feminine products? Here’s a great solution that allows them to be off the floor, easy to reach and hidden behind the door...without having to hang a cabinet or shelf to the wall!
3M makes these clear Command storage containers. They come with 3 adhesive strips for each container and they hold up to 4 lbs! They would be perfect for any space where you need some extra floating storage without needing it to stay there permanently (inside bathrooms, inside cabinet doors, pantry, office).
I bought these on Amazon.

This morning I walked into my 6th grade sons room to find that he had made his bed without me having to ask. He’s officially my favorite child. 🤣
This might not seem like a big deal, but I’ve basically spent the last several years trying to get him into the routine and it hasn’t really clicked until this year....That’s probably 2000 times I’ve made his bed and shown him how to do it. Today, I celebrate this victory and promise you that your kids will eventually pick up the things you teach them, even if they don’t initially understand or agree with the why behind it.
“Mom, why do I have to make my bed if I’m going to just get into it again tonight?”
“You make your bed each day because it tells your brain that you are ready to start your day. It sends a message to yourself that is positive. It tells your brain that you are not tired, that you can begin the day with a prepared mindset. And also, studies show that you sleep better at night when you get into a made bed.”
{Child stares blankly with an annoyed expression} {I grin back}
Maybe that’s a silly ideology that I subscribe to, but I actually think it’s clicking for a sixth grade boy. He’s embraced all the crazy changes happening in his life, he’s doing really well in MIDDLE SCHOOL, and his freakin’ bed is made and I didn’t have to lift a finger. Miracles do happen. 🙂

It’s a bit like Groundhog Day around here since our began. The kids are starting to get a bit stir crazy, so I’m about to bust out my chore frequency chart again! This was originally included in my Summer Planning Guide last year, but I thought it might be useful for you if you’re aiming for a sparkly-clean house while you’re . Stay home and stay healthy! 💛

I used tap lights and velcro to put tap lights in this pantry. These cabinets are very deep and so most of the space is unused (or mystery food gets lost back there) because you can’t ever see anything. Today I reorganized everything using Dollar Tree supplies and then added these tap lights. What a difference! Now all of the cabinet space is accessible and visible. @ Roswell, Georgia

This drawer used to be filled with boxes of ziplock bags in multiple sizes. However I’ve recently felt as though I have not been as respectful to the environment as I should be, so I’ve stopped using single use plastic. I found these reusable zipper bags on Amazon and I LOVE them. They are super heavy duty, seal completely and are leak-proof, and they are easy to clean. (Just wash with soap and warm water and air dry upside down on a mug. Nbd) Besides helping reduce my footprint, these reusable bags save a ton of drawer space! Another win-win.
(See my story for more info about these bags!)

Essential oils are amazing but if you use them regularly, you’ve probably wondered about how to store them so that they don’t clutter up your countertops. I’ve found a perfect product to help you organize them so that they are easy to see and even better, they keep everything nice and pretty!
These are clear acrylic shelves meant for nail polish bottles but work perfectly for essential oil bottles too! They are currently $12.99 each on Amazon and as you can see, they hold a ton of bottles. @ Woodstock, Georgia

I don’t usually go for those “As Seen on TV” products because they can be pretty gimmicky. But this one is really worth a buy!
I’m gonna be honest. My spice cabinet was driving me CRAZY because I couldn’t find the right shelving or system to make things functional. I seriously have been looking for just the right product for my own house for the longest time and stumbled across this product. I kid you not; when I got this set up and in my cabinet I squealed because it was SO MUCH BETTER. I can see every spice I have without moving things around while I’m in the middle of cooking dinner. If you’re looking for shelving for small objects like toiletries, medicine bottles or spices, I highly recommend this product!!
The set-up takes a little bit of time, but is worth it! I preferred to keep the shelf wider to fit my whole cabinet, so mine is only two levels high instead of three.
You can get the Spicy Shelf from Walmart for $19.99! @ Woodstock, Georgia
