Today marks the 106th anniversary of women in this country winning the right to vote. It's worth sitting with how recent that actually is, given the span of history.

Many of my marketing clients are women-owned businesses, but all of our Rooted Authority clients are. Consultants, travel agents, translators, shop owners; all women who built something from nothing while being told, in a hundred small ways, to be quieter about it.

Here's what I've learned working alongside them: the confidence gap is real, but it's not a personal failing. It's what happens after years of being talked over. The women I work with are usually the most qualified people in the room and often the last ones to say so.

So today's encouragement, professionally speaking, is this: say the thing. Charge the rate. Take up the space. ✨

Your expertise isn't arrogance, and marketing yourself isn't bragging. It's telling the truth, loud and proud.

Wheels down in Atlanta tonight! 🛬 I'm back for the next two weeks.

This is the part of remote work nobody puts on a highlight reel: the calendar math.

My client work gets scheduled as far out as I can, specifically so that trips like this one aren't a scramble. The strategy is done, the content is queued, and the calls are placed where they belong. ✔

Which means I get to be here. Actually here, not half-here with a laptop open.

Two weeks with my family, a birthday to celebrate, and Dragon Con rounding out the end. If you're local and want to grab a coffee, say the word. I'd love to see you. 💖

One year ago this month, Jennifer Richardson and I were buried in documents, strategizing about frameworks, and building something we weren't entirely sure would work.

Rooted Authority launched a few weeks later, in September. A year in, I can tell you what I've learned from watching women move through it. 🌿

Almost none of them had an expertise problem. They had a permission problem.

The women who came to us were already good. (Like, really good.) What they didn't have was the language to say so out loud, or the belief that saying so was allowed.

There's a particular kind of quiet that settles over someone who has been told, in a hundred small ways, to be more modest about what she knows. We watched that quiet break, over and over, and it's the best thing I've been part of professionally.

Building something with a partner you trust is its own gift. Jenn, thank you for the strategy sessions, the late nights, and for making me better at the thing I already thought I was good at. 💖

Here's to year two. 🎉

Traffic is the most overrated number in your analytics. (Especially as zero-click searches continue to dominate.) 📊

I've seen sites with 300 visitors a month outperform sites with 3,000, because the right people showed up and the site gave them a reason to reach out.

Instead, I’d pay attention to things like which pages people actually spend time on, where they leave right before contacting you, and how many visitors turn into calls, forms, or bookings.

That last one? It's really kind of the whole point of tracking your data.

And here's the thing I find with almost every new client: it isn't being tracked at all. If you don't know how many website visitors became inquiries last month, that's the first thing to fix.

I'm running a marketing business for clients in metro Atlanta from a hill town in Tuscany.

My mornings are client work (typically content creation and strategy), my afternoons are calls until 1pm EST, and sometimes in there I'm studying Italian and getting comfortable failing gracefully at it.

There's also the coaching side. Jennifer Richardson and I run Rooted Authority together, working with women entrepreneurs on building real authority in their industries, and those conversations happen across the same ocean. Turns out helping someone own her expertise doesn't require sharing a zip code.

The glamorous version of this life is what you see curated on Instagram & Facebook. The real version is a strong internet connection (which is in my kitchen), a color-coded Google calendar, and doing meaningful work for people who trust you whether you're 10 minutes away or an ocean apart.

I'm finding out that what makes remote work possible isn't the location. It's the support you build yourself. Systems and communication that are strong enough to build trust and make location irrelevant. I'm beyond grateful for the people who make that possible. 💖

"Is blogging still worth it?"

Yes. But not the way you're thinking.

The old way: publish keyword posts on a schedule and wait for Google traffic. That era is fading. (Or faded completely, depending which experts you ask.)

The reason to blog in 2026 is ownership. Your Instagram post is gone in 48 hours. A blog post on YOUR website answers a client question for years. It shows up when someone Googles you before booking. It gets cited by AI tools. It becomes three emails and five social posts.

And when a prospect asks a question you've answered before, you send a link instead of typing it out for the tenth time.

One helpful post, written for a real client question, beats twelve posts written for a search engine.

You don't need to obsess over your competitors.

You *do* need to answer three questions about them.

What are they ranking for that you're not? Google the services you offer, in your area, and see who shows up. That gap is your content list.

What are their clients complaining about? Read their reviews. Every recurring complaint is something you get to do better, and say so.

What do they all sound like? If every competitor's website says the same thing, the way you win isn't saying it louder. It's saying something true that none of them are willing to say. ✍

An hour on this beats a month of posting into the void.

I joined Facebook when you still needed a .edu email to get in. I've been paid to be on and manage social media since 2012. And even *I* read this new digital fatigue study and felt tired. 😩 The data?

- 55% of people are posting less than they were five years ago.
- Nearly half have deleted an app because of stress.
- Among millennials, that's 61%.
- And more than half of Americans surveyed say maintaining an online presence feels like work.

Yes, I see the irony of posting about this. But if your audience is quietly backing away from the feed, your business shouldn't have all its proverbial eggs in this basket either.

On the blog, I'm sharing what 15 years in social media taught me about the shift happening right now, plus the places I'd put your marketing energy instead.

You don't need 11 analytics tools. You just need one you'll actually open.

Buffer just rounded up the best social media analytics tools of 2026, and here's the part worth remembering: the built-in insights on each platform have real gaps. (I'll link their findings below!)

Instagram tells you one story, Facebook another, LinkedIn a third, and none of them talk to each other. So you hop between apps, screenshot numbers, and still can't answer the only question that matters: is this working?

For most small businesses, one tool that pulls everything into a single view beats a fancy stack you never check.

But here's my rule before you buy anything: a tool shows you numbers. It can't tell you what they mean for YOUR business.

Decide what you're measuring for first. Then pick the tool.
