In today’s world, where trends come and go faster than ever, the importance of maintaining a professional image seems to be getting lost in the shuffle.

Recently, a TikTok video went viral, showing a young woman who was denied an interview because of her attire—shorts, sweater and a t-shirt. Despite the recruiter’s offer to let her change and return, she refused, believing her outfit was appropriate. This incident raises the question: when did we lose the art of professional dress?

Was it the casualization of workplaces during the pandemic? The influence of pop culture figures like Sexy Red and the City Girls? Whatever the cause, it’s clear that many are losing sight of what it means to present oneself professionally.

For those of us who still value the power of a polished appearance, I’m launching a series called “10 Wardrobe Essentials Every Professional Woman Should Own.” This series will focus on the key pieces that every woman should have in her closet to ensure she’s always ready to make a great impression, whether in the boardroom, at a networking event, or during an interview.
