Can I share how I was so wrong about the K. Dot vs Drizzy beef?
I almost missed the forest for the trees because I didn’t follow my own advice.
In true introvert form and fashion, if it doesn’t impact, involve, or is none of my business, we tend to take the J. Cole route.
I’ll add my two cents, post, dip, and then go on to mind the business that pays me.
And, initially, this power battle between two lyrical juggernauts wasn’t a topic piquing my interest.
Nonetheless, for the past two weeks, it has been nearly impossible avoid it.
From Facebook, to Threads, to Twitter (yes, I still and will always call it Twitter, all my news Feeds have been cluttered with random post, lyrical critiques, and a tsunami of thought pieces about Rap Battle of Battles since, well Drake 🆚 ___________ (fill in any of names below)
Again, no shade or rocks thrown…
For me, the level of importance with what either men say or do, doesn’t contribute to nor sn**ch away my peace or collection of my coins. So I was good with my ignorance.
Ironically, I’ve chosen to transitionally shift this position.
Thus, this post, the subsequent content and conversational pieces to follow.
The initial “beef” was reminiscent of the Avengers vs Thanos conundrum, with Drake being Thanos, Kendrick being the Compton Captin’ AmeriKKKa, and Future being Nick Fury. (The reason why we’re all here.)
It took 5011 of nem to plan and plot this clandestine operation, initially, in what appeared to be “beef” solely based on why they don’t “like” Drake??
Really, Drake? (in my Soulja Boy voice)
Yes. Mr 6 God himself.
Drake has shown to be a formidable faux from prior attempts at his reign. From Meek Mill, Ye, Pusha T to personalities like Charlemagne and Joe Budden, he’s shown and proved, he couldn’t be stopped via individual attacks.
They realized, some from personal experience, they were not strong enough to take him down alone.
So in true villainous fashion, albeit humorously ironic, a group of personalities, of which a vast number of people, dislike, despise, or disdain, in some form or fashion, decided to switch up and take on the roles of anti-heroes.
And, superficially (to me) it looked petty, problematic, and anti-profitable, qualities which will disqualify any of my attention or involvement
I texted my bruv Iva Marshon Williams to ask why are these grown men wasting their lyrical prowess?
Did’t they have something better to do, like sell somthin’?
I missed the forest for the trees.
Because the priors, I really tried to avoid adding my two cents at the first whiff of an issue.
☑️ Yes, it’s petty.
✅ Yes, most of the parties involved are perpetually problematic.
💰 But….the profitability caught my eye.
Now, like most people, I’m locked and loaded to this.
I’ll be back later with my full break down of how the Hip Hop Battle of this generation converted the petty, the personas, and the personal into profits.
Make sure “Like”, Follow, and Add to your favorites to see when I’ll be back with the break down.
