Today’s repair was in Cartersville, GA! That’s quite a long drive for me!

6 pieces were broken or missing in this oval, with one piece which had to be custom, hand made as a replacement; requiring 2 trips to the home instead of the usual one. I marked the pieces with an X. Also the “frosted” areas of the glass were of a type of single glue chip that hasn’t been made since the late 1900’s! Luckily, I have some in my stash for those who see the value and are willing to pay for the correct replacement. A perfect match!

Today’s repair, rather rebuild, was done for a multi panel door in downtown Marietta. There were only two broken pieces in the panel, but it was the entire panel so it had to be rebuilt. This is a very old door with glass that no longer exists, however, I was able to find something in my stock that matched pretty darn close.

Today’s repair was at Hickory Rd. Baptist Church in Canton, Georgia. Someone apparently leaned into the glass and broke two border pieces of the stained glass window. I replaced the pieces with the closest color glass with blue and mauve highlights that I had that was chosen by a couple of church elders over several choices that I had. No, it does not match perfectly, but when you are dealing with a glass type, that was available & installed in this church back in 1983, and with no place left in the state of Georgia to buy colored glass anymore, you do the best with what you got. It is a progressive color of glass that did look similar in other parts of the window, though, as seen in pic 5. The elders were pleased.

Today’s repair was at the Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse in midtown Atlanta. Someone apparently pushed on the glass from the inside trying to open the door, even when there are attached push bars on the door. There were 3 broken pieces in the right door and one on the left. We’re always grateful for dummies and dogs, here at A1. 😄

Today’s front door repair job at a home in Cu***ng Georgia. Luckily the house was empty, which made the maneuvering part easy. The job itself, not so much.

A repair that I did today at an older home which is now an Air B&B on 5th Street in downtown Atlanta. There were six broken pieces marked with an X in the first picture. All of the colored glass was of a type and texture called German New Antique (GNA) which does come from Germany, but they stopped making the colored type of it over a quarter century ago. Since I have been in the business so long and have a large stock of older glass, I had the yellow and amber color in my stock, but did not have the correct blue color. In the after picture, you can clearly see the blue GNA color that I had and used differs, but what are you going to do when you don’t have that color GNA? You do the best you can do with what you do have. It bothers the perfectionist in me, but the homeowner was still pleased, though.

A fully beveled, zinc camed front door panel that I recently saved from destruction by wear and tear from years of opening & closing it without any support to the glass. It was falling apart. I added 2 pieces of horizontal steel rebar in two places across it and this very beautiful and valuable panel should now last many more decades. You just don’t see things like this fully beveled panel made anymore.

A very old church window taken out of Conyers First Methodist Church that I took out of its frame and partially rebuilt and replaced a couple of pieces. It had a poorly attached piece of rebar that caused it to bow and cave in on itself over time. Luckily none of the painted pieces were broken. I don’t know how old it is exactly, but the wooden frame it is held in is made of redwood. I will return this to be reinstalled into the church tomorrow.
