Copper foil stained glass repair

A stained glass repair that I did today on this copper foil method panel. This measures roughly 25” x 40”. You can see the three broken pieces in the upper right hand third of the window (noted by the taped pieces) that are light blue waterglass. Unbelievably, I had an exact match in my stash from a job that I did about 15-20 years ago that is no longer available, either. My usual medium is leaded glass but I do repair these copper foil stained glass panels as well.

Here’s one I’ve never seen before or will ever see again. A 24 foot long by 31 inch high stained glass transom; located in Social Circle GA. Very old.  A couple of pieces were broken/missing and it was bowed really badly due to age and broken solder joints. I got it straightened back out again and replaced the two pieces with the closest match that I could find, which is really amazing that I could find that. The texture was off, but the color was spot on. Pictures show the progression of the repair and the work area on a low clearance loft near the ceiling. The building also has a very unique history.

Stained glass window repair

Here is a recent repair to a very old and very intricate stained glass window that I just completed. Due to the extreme intricacy and design, I estimate this to be early 20th century. A lot of the lead was bent and out of shape, but I repositioned it to do the repair and replacement of the broken pieces. Yes, the white is off a little but it’s hard to match 100+ year-old glass exactly.I do the best with what I have and can.

I recently restored this very old leaded glass panel that fits into a very old door. I have never seen anything like it before and due to its intricacies, I would have to guess it was from possibly late 1800s or early 1900s. It has lead medallions attached on each side, and a very high raised lead came profile. The highest I’ve ever seen. It is also very thick lead came and VERY heavy for its size. A couple of broken pieces were replaced as well as the entire panel re-cemented on each side, which not only seals the window, but also shines and removes oxidation and blackens the lead.

Two of the oddest shaped leaded glass panels that I have ever built and the most difficult install I have ever done, today at a home in Alpharetta GA. Big thanks to Kurt for helping me out with the install. The lower bathroom window had already been there for decades.

Today’s repair on an older home in Clarkston GA. I replaced four cracked pieces caused by careless painters. I’ve only used this type of Glass once before for a repair and was very lucky that I had some.
