I recently restored this very old leaded glass panel that fits into a very old door. I have never seen anything like it before and due to its intricacies, I would have to guess it was from possibly late 1800s or early 1900s. It has lead medallions attached on each side, and a very high raised lead came profile. The highest I’ve ever seen. It is also very thick lead came and VERY heavy for its size. A couple of broken pieces were replaced as well as the entire panel re-cemented on each side, which not only seals the window, but also shines and removes oxidation and blackens the lead.

Two of the oddest shaped leaded glass panels that I have ever built and the most difficult install I have ever done, today at a home in Alpharetta GA. Big thanks to Kurt for helping me out with the install. The lower bathroom window had already been there for decades.

Today’s repair on an older home in Clarkston GA. I replaced four cracked pieces caused by careless painters. I’ve only used this type of Glass once before for a repair and was very lucky that I had some.

Today’s leaded glass repair was at a home in Peachtree Corners, replacing a quite large piece of old, US made single glue chip glass that the dog apparently pushed out. This particular type of glass has not been made since the late 1990s, so this is very old stock. Glad I was able to match it. Very interesting looking house, too.

Here are 3 very old transoms, probably made around the turn of the 20th century, that were pulled from a house in downtown Stone Mountain GA that caught fire late last year. They were very fragile due to their age and the fire. I restored them by reattaching the vertical pieces of rebar (stabilization bars) that had come detached, re-cemented both sides and cleaned them up. Each of them were nearly black on one side due to the soot and smoke from the fire. They do have a few cracks in them, here and there, but the glass types in them were irreplaceable, so the cracked pieces were left in place. The cement filled any gaps. They were returned to the partially rebuilt house today to be reinstalled, over 4 months later.

Today’s repair was in Cartersville, GA! That’s quite a long drive for me!

6 pieces were broken or missing in this oval, with one piece which had to be custom, hand made as a replacement; requiring 2 trips to the home instead of the usual one. I marked the pieces with an X. Also the “frosted” areas of the glass were of a type of single glue chip that hasn’t been made since the late 1900’s! Luckily, I have some in my stash for those who see the value and are willing to pay for the correct replacement. A perfect match!

Today’s repair, rather rebuild, was done for a multi panel door in downtown Marietta. There were only two broken pieces in the panel, but it was the entire panel so it had to be rebuilt. This is a very old door with glass that no longer exists, however, I was able to find something in my stock that matched pretty darn close.

Today’s repair was at Hickory Rd. Baptist Church in Canton, Georgia. Someone apparently leaned into the glass and broke two border pieces of the stained glass window. I replaced the pieces with the closest color glass with blue and mauve highlights that I had that was chosen by a couple of church elders over several choices that I had. No, it does not match perfectly, but when you are dealing with a glass type, that was available & installed in this church back in 1983, and with no place left in the state of Georgia to buy colored glass anymore, you do the best with what you got. It is a progressive color of glass that did look similar in other parts of the window, though, as seen in pic 5. The elders were pleased.
