As we are in the final preparation push for the 23rd Ride For America on Monday, here are a couple of things we think your should know/remember:
1. Gates open at 7AM and will be busy all morning. If you want to ride together, arrive together! We expect a huge crowd so we cannot spend time trying to reunite groups that show up piecemeal.
2. Come with your gas tank ready for a slow 63 mile ride... once you are parked there will NOT be a chance to get out to get gas.
3. T-Shirt prices have gone up to $12 this year. We hate it, but like everything else our costs have gone up and we cannot afford to lose money.
4. We will not be stopping in Madison so if you do not plan to stay for the after ride party, please pay attention as we return to the post for a lane for those who want to exit. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO EXIT DURING THE RIDE, IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN.
5. It should not be TOO hot on Monday, but please drink plenty of water and keep yourself hydrated and healthy.
6. This should go without saying, but you would be surprised, it has happened... PLEASE DO NOT SHOW UP TO THE RIDE DRUNK. We will not allow you to ride and will insist you pass a breathalyzer before you can leave on your bike.
7. Please do not try to join the ride somewhere along the route. You know who you are. It's still only $10 to ride and the money goes to great causes. Karma knows who you are too.
8. There will be awesome raffle prizes and door prizes after the ride and the Boy Scouts are cooking BBQ. $8 for a great lunch and a great time. Draft beer will also be available!
9. Please do not abuse our volunteers... they are volunteers and we know them all to be sweet. None of us gets paid to put up with abuse and we will likely talk bad about you for years if you get nasty.
10. Please be respectful during the Memorial Day ceremonies. We have committed to fewer speeches this year, but these folks have prepared for a long time and besides, it is a solemn holiday.
11. Come ready to have a great ride and great time! We missed you last year and if we can dust our bikes and squeeze in an oil change before Monday AM, we will be ready to ride with you!
